I'm going from Waco to Dallas

How was your experience? I drove for Lyft for a little over two years all over the Waco area and would like to hear how it went.

That's a pretty long Uber. You may have already gone, but just in case:

It's really not that much different from riding in a taxi. The drivers are usually more outgoing. Some will want to talk, others just want to drive. You've got a pretty long drive, so I'd expect a bit of both--much like any longer drive tends to be with other people. Generally, cars are well maintained and clean. The app makes everything related to pickup and payment pretty easy.

The app will describe your driver's car, both make, model, and color. It'll have the license plate listed. It will tell you the name of the driver (you can probably already see this).

When the driver is approaching, it'll show you on a small map where the pickup point is. I usually catch Ubers in a downtown setting, and I'm crap with directions, so I usually head the wrong way initially, but at any rate, you'll be able to spot the ride when you get close.

When the driver gets there, it's like anything else. I'm polite and courteous, greet the driver, and get into the back seat (if you're headed to the airport or have luggage, the driver may get out and load your bags). Obviously, treat the car like you'd treat your own stuff. Shoes clean, etc.

The app will give you multiple opportunities to tip or add gratuities. Be mindful of the fact that Uber drivers are using their personally owned materials - cars, gas, oil changes, tires etc. aren't compensated by the company. Be generous if you're able. You'll have the option to tip after the ride is complete (still through the app) if you're more comfortable doing it that way.

I can lament the rise of the gig economy and the destruction of livery professionals, but alas, we're past that now. For all its faults starting out, I've never had an unpleasant Uber experience.

There are multiple possibilities. My profile says "quiet" so I don't have a lot of conversations. You can get a hot car. Loud music. Smelly driver or just a nice ride in the back of a car. Use your headphones for the best experience. Also, don't take the cheapest as they are older cars.

It actually went well other than the weather, my driver was very competant & cautious.

I've used Uber a number of times. I like it better than a taxi. the payment and tip are all handled over the web-app and that makes it easier for me when I arrive at a location to focus on getting luggage and family rather than paying the taxi driver when I get out of the car. Once I get settled at the new location, I pay the tip a few minutes later. I have found both Uber and Lyft easy to use. I also like to cost of the ride is shown when requesting the ride.

Man oh man, I wish that I'd seen this earlier. My story would've started, "You may not believe this, but it's true. I attend a mid-sized university in Texas and needed a ride to DFW. My car was up on blocks again, and I couldn't find a friend or taxi to run me up there. So I used the app and scheduled an uber.

I've had uber drivers who were friendly and generally good drivers, to ones that got you from point A to point B, and one who drove like he was Achmed the Dead Terrorist.

I suspect your experience will depend on what part of the country you're taking the Uber ride in.

Whether viewed from the driver's or passenger's seat, a rideshare experience is only as good or bad as those involved. Bad drivers usually end up with low scores, which will get them eliminated by the company or passengers rejecting them due to a low satisfaction score.

That works both ways. When I was sent a ride offer, I'd ignore/reject it if the money was too low, or if they had been given a low score by other drivers.

Dealing with the public will always be a roll of the dice, whether it's rideshare, hospitality, or who you sit next to at a Baylor game. Personally, I'd say 98% of those I dealt with were a pleasure. Unfortunately, those last 2% can be hard to forget.

For my part, I have just 2 Uber experiences. 2018, ordered an Uber for my daughter who needed to go on a field trip for class, but the guy never showed. No explanation, just disappeared.

2021, I had surgery scheduled and needed to go to the hospital day (knee replacement but OP) but my wife had work that morning. Uber got me to the hospital, driver was prompt, very courteous, I sat in the front bc I needed the leg stretched out, could not have asked for a better driver.

To me, Uber is what taxis should have been. Not perfect of course, but taxis had every problem before that we have seen from Uber, only Uber is more responsive and appears to listen.

Generally a solid service and well-run.

Yep, acknowledged that. The above post was made on 7/23. The scheduled Uber was on 7/15. A week after the fact advice on taking a Uber is a week after the fact. Got it. It's done. Over. Finished. Thanks but don't need advice anymore.
