I thought there were a lot of suspect calls on Baylor including overturning the catch.

I also saw missed calls for Txstate including a pass interference when they tripped our WR.

Baylor needs justice with the big 12 refs. Can we start taking this up with the big 12 commissioner? I understand a missed here and there but it seems more than that. Am I the only one?

Were they Big XII refs? I didn't recognize them.

Same in the UTSA Texas game. They overturned a TD and failed to call pass interference so many times.

Texas was called for targeting, it got reviewed and confirmed, however it was clear that the UT player did not lead with the crown and it was face mask to face mask.

Now, it's UT so I don't care, but if it happened to us I'd be pissed

I thought there were several hits on Shapen in 1H that could have been late hits. Agree - refs were one-sided and not good.

that was absolutely targeting. he hit a defenseless player. doesn't' matter whether you lead with the crown or something else

Steve Baron was the crew chief for yesterday, and yes he is a Big XII official.

https://frontrangefootballof.wixsite.com/fortcollins/steve-baron

I notice he started 13 years ago as an official, was in Division II 8 years ago, moved to the Big XII 7 years ago as a Center Judge.

So his lack of understanding the rules in context of yesterday is likely sloppiness more than anything else. I saw that with SFOA and later with TASO, the officials who moved to higher levels didn't pay as much attention to rule changes, points of emphasis, or - frankly - making sure they got the call right.

Their focus was on game management, keeping the game moving and making the conference happy.

Baron damn well would have taken his job more seriously if he was working a game in Norman or Austin, due to TV visibility.

That which does not kill me, will try again and get nastier

The Big12 has the worst officiating. I'll watch Baylor with my dad and then we'll watch Tennessee. Big12 refs huddle up as an entire crew after every flag or possible flag or any possible decision they have to make. It's ridiculous and adds so much time to the game. SEC refs tend to give Bama calls but in other games they are quick, there is no massive huddle for 5 mins, and the game resumes.

Sometimes you have to play against the refs as well.

Three feet down and an attempt to advance. Catch.

This is true. The old rule of using only the crown of the helmet is long gone.

These new targeting calls/rules are getting out of hand.

The problem here is the vague nature of the word defenseless. Who on a football field is truly defenseless? At some point a player has to be aware of his surroundings and accountable for his own defense, particularly if said player is the ball carrier.

Pretty sure when you're the QB, you have the ball in your hand, facing forward, and the LB hits you nose to nose, you're not "defenseless". You should pretty much expect that the other team is trying to tackle you. It's kind of the operating principle of a football game.

You got it - Not defenseless. I guess he could've asked him politely to take a knee?

The overturned catch was outrageous.

Yep. I remember the Arkansas game in '74. Steve Beard scored on three consecutive plays before he was awarded the touchdown. Supposedly after the third time he asked the ref "you wanna see me do it again" lol.
