This story caught my eye. We never got the full story on him leaving BU....but it also seemed he left here disgruntled.

This article alludes to Ron Roberts leaving Auburn and Roberts possibly hinting at "culture" problems in the program from his Twitter account when he was on his way out.

Earlier this week, news broke that first-year offensive coordinator Philip Montgomery was fired from his position. He was one of the first hires made by head coach Hugh Freeze last December, and his intended role was to be the Tigers' play caller while Freeze took a step back from gameplanning to focus on recruiting.

After a season of ups and downs and questionable game plans, especially the team's performance against Maryland in the Music City Bowl, Freeze and the Tigers will be seeking a new offensive coordinator.

On the heels of the OC news comes speculation that Auburn football may also be on the hunt for a new defensive coordinator soon. The Tigers' defense was solid for most of the year, and Freeze praised DC Ron Roberts for his "masterful" playcalling on defense and for taking care of business.

However, fans were unhappy with Roberts after the defensive showing in this year's heartbreaking Iron Bowl in addition to his tendencies to argue with fans on social media.

Sources indicate trouble could be brewing on the Plains. According to Phillip Dukes of 247 Sports, there are several other schoolsincluding Florida interested in bringing Ron Roberts to their programs.

According to Edgar Thompson of the Orlando Sentinel, Roberts worked with Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier at Louisiana from 2018-2019 when Austin Armstrong, current Florida defensive coordinator, was a graduate assistant.

Also of note, Roberts deleted a tweet made from his personal account earlier this week citing 10 "culture killers" but quickly deleted the post.

Prior to taking the defensive coordinator role on the Plains, Roberts held the same role at Baylor for three years. Before Baylor, Roberts was DC at Louisiana and head coach at Southeastern Louisiana.

I figured he did leave Auburn disgruntled as he just went from DC to co-Dc after year one. Obviously he left here disgruntled as he was fired.

He tweeted something cryptic after leaving here...maybe he's the problem?

Yeah. I think letting him go then having as awful a defense we had this year is a bad look. But beginning to look like Roberts is problematic even if he can be pretty darn good at what he does.

Maybe the transition from HC back to DC is giving him some problems...

I've heard he's a good coach but very much a Bill Belichick my way or the highway kind of guy, and it just doesn't work as a journeyman coordinator like he is

Hopefully he will be gruntled at his next job.

I think it was almost the same thing. In fact I thought someone reposted what he said about us until I checked the date. Like I'm usually thinking but biting my tongue when someone is complaining about their 3rd or so spouse "you're the common denominator here it looks like you may be the problem".

He's managed to land on his feet twice with Auburn and now Florida.

It'll be interesting to see how long he lasts in this stint.

Yeah, at some point you've gotta show you can get along with people.

I know the coaching profession is different, but I'd be pretty concerned about hiring someone who'd moved twice that recently.

The College Football Coaches Assn. should use the recycling logo on its masthead.
