The interesting about this past season would have been Oklahoma finished 12, but liberty got in because they won their conference. I think also in 2021 someone from the ACC finished 12 and Cincinnati won their conference and they would've gotten in.

Poor ND. I feel so bad for them. Maybe they need to drop football.

I'm confused when it says 5 highest ranked conf champs is it basically saying the p4 champs are automatically in just their seeding is based on rank and then the highest ranked G5 winner is automatic as well and seeded based on where they rank compared to the other power conf champs? Or are they saying if the Sun Belt, MWC and AAC champ are ranked higher than the SEC and XII champs they are automatically in over them? I know that will never happen. I'm just trying to understand their unspecific language in these tweets.

The rules are highest ranked conference champs, so, in theory, the latter (bolded for emphasis).

"...as determined by the CFP Selection Committee."

Right there all bets are still off, my friends.

Bingo.

It'll still be the same *s*it* show, just with obvious certainty at the top.

Oh wow, they are trying to force ND into a conference. Just to piss off the BIG or SEC ND should join ACC or Big 12.

The suspense is killing me! Thanks for sharing this exciting update; it's got me eagerly anticipating the next college football season. And hey, if you're a fan of thrilling matchups, you should definitely keep an eye on the Premier League action, too.

Notre Dames path to a Naty whether ranked high or low is one game short of a Big 12 champion path to a Naty if not ranked in top 4. Why? Notre Dame does not play a conference championship game, and the Big 12 does making the Naty game the 17th on the season for Big 12 not in top 4 compared to 16 for ND.

It will be brutal health wise on the players to play the last 4 games in four weeks against brutal competition regardless of what team you are and where you are ranked. I project more opt outs for those going to NFL.

Especially for new Sun Belt HCs that just signed incentive contracts for 300K to get into the playoffs in the 6 + 6 format and now that incentive might as well not exist. Oregon St and Wazzu should just nit count at all.

So, 9 teams from SEC/B1G, 3 from everywhere else … thrilling. I guess maybe Notre Dame might lower it to 8 occasionally. The committee will find a way.

And again, NFL has a draft, salary cap, tampering rules, contract rules, etc., and -- probably most importantly -- centralized enforcement of those rules.

What this actually sounds like is the original 6 in the NHL. No draft - so Montreal and Toronto signed all the local kids who - surprise - were really good at hockey. No salary cap - so same because they could afford to pay more because hockey was more popular in those cities (not that the players were paid very well). And pretty ineffective league that was basically dominated by the Canadian teams anyway.

That resulted in Montreal, Toronto and to a lesser extent Detroit dominating the league and playoffs that nearly always had those 3 teams in it (out of 4 playoff spots). Chicago, Boston and NY really struggled.

Even Canadian hockey fans think the original 6 era sucked and constantly have debates about whether the records in that era should even count.

No bueno.

SEC and Big10 also want 3 auto bids a piece. They offered the Big12 and ACC 2 auto bids but no chance at a bye. This is the kind of situation where Yormark earns his paycheck. "Interesting thoughts SEC and Big10. If you grant us and the ACC 4 auto bids to the Sweet 16 each maybe we'll think about it"
