Maybe they are switching conferences. That seems to be the easiest way to win your conference, or at least play in championship game.

BOR approval would be odd for making coordinator changes or any other assistant changes. Perhaps they have large buy outs???

Only problem is you have to be invited to switch conferences - especially if the new conference is clearly an upgrade.

I am pretty sure Pac 12 would take Waco High at this point.

I'm not sure I understand his (Gundy's) rationale here. Is Gundy saying that the reason OSU didn't win a single conference game is that his two co-ordinators weren't being paid enough . . . . so they weren't trying as hard? Or is he saying that, in order to find better replacements, he needs to be able to offer candidates more money?

Situation seems a little bit familiar.

I think this may be a new model emerging for non blue bloods in the era of having to pay the players big bucks as well. Granted in this instance Gundy was a star QB there and a 20 year HC there thus far and more successful than probably all of his predecessors. So he is more special to OSU than the typical mercenary is at most other places, but I still think this is a new model emerging.

The second one. And this has been going on at Oklahoma State for a while. Gundy butts heads with their leaders every few years over lack of resources

With some exceptions (like this year) most of Gundy's coordinators are getting poached for higher salaries / better gigs.

His responses in regards to losing coordinators have shifted over the years. They started off as complaining about not having enough money for his coordinators, to then being resigned with the fact that OSU isn't going to pay up to keep them.

He hired Yurcich from tiny Shippensburg because he was tired of his OC being poached every couple of years. Yurcich worked out and he was there 5 or 6 years before Ohio St poached him.

We are hitting a point where coaches are likely to be given a full contract or close to prove what they can do. It's easier to throw a head coach $2 million for staffing upgrades than firing him for $10+ million. You save $8+ million to pay your roster which with House is now semi required (not 100% on the all the new rules)
