High praise coming out of BU fall camp regarding true freshman back Caden Knighten.
Devin Bobby and a few others have nicknamed him mini skattebo. There's your answer as to who replaces DP

That's very interesting. When I watch his high school highlight vids, I see more of a Trestan Ebner rather than a north south power runner like Pendergrass. Curious how Joseph Dodds looks as well

Knighten will be ignitin' the scorebord this year. BU's Knighten shining armor.

Make it so.

Sic 'em!

Cam Stuart (usually very fair in his BU coverage) has Said all 3 Dobbs, Knighten, Turner have shined in full camp. Take it for what it's worth. He did predict Dobbs ends up redshirting. Apparently all 3 are big backs (north of 210) which I personally love to see

Good stuff. Assuming we're talking about the same person, Joseph Dodds red shirted last season

Ope you're right!! I need to go listen to his video again. Clearly I misunderstood the part where he was talking bout one of them redshirting.

I would think Turner seems like the most likely candidate. I looked at the roster the other day and noticed what you're saying about our running backs. It's probably the heaviest group over all that I can remember

As I posted in another thread:

We could use Klopfenstein when we need a bruiser running back. Good hands as tight end and he's 6 ft 4 and 250 pounds.

Here he is with Pendergrass.

Seems unlikely. Look at the size of Knighten, Dodds, Turner. All 3 re big backs. Playing RB requires a certain vision skill that most don't possess. That's not to say one of our TEs couldn't grind out a few yards when needed.

From the official roster at https://baylorbears.com/sports/football/roster :

Knighten: 5-foot-11, 212 pounds
Turner: 6-foot-2, 198 pounds
Dodds: 6-foot, 222 pounds
Pendergrass: 6-foot-2, 234 pounds
Klopfenstein: 6-foot-4, 250 pounds

Also:
Bryson Washington, 6-foot, 216 pounds

Stuart hinted at Turner be Knighten being heavier. Maybe they've added some weight.
I'd sure hope our TEs would weigh more than our backs. I'm not sure klopfenstein weighing 250 automatically means he's a capable power back. If I recall he was recruited for his blocking skills more so than his ability as a skill player. Definitely correct me if I'm wrong on that .
Edit just looked Turner is listed at 6 ft 220 on the bu website. That's a big group of backs

Whatever they decide, it's good that Aranda and running backs coach Khenon Hall have some options in back-filling for the loss of Pendergrass.

I think we get a heavy dose of Washington and Dodd

I would guess Turner, Dodds, and Knighten all get some reps, especially against Samford. Washington isn't a small back by any means. The one who gets the initial #2 nod might simply be ahead in pass protection and catching/route running.

Options are nice but I'm bummed because Pendergrass is a personal favorite.

FWIW, in playing CFB 26, my top performers are Trigg and Robertson. They are a killer combo with Trigg's sure hands, going downfield and cutting across the middle. Unstoppable.

Same. While Bryson is definitely our premier guy, Pendergrass was who we used to lay the wood on the D. His weight alone and bruising style of running is hard to replicate. The other RBs might be able to catch better, sprint better, juke better, but I doubt any of them match Pendergrass on sheer FB-esque destruction.

Dawson would have been such a great short yardage back this year because he is the rare bruiser that can take it to the house. You have to defend 4th and 1 way differently when you are worried the guy will outrun the second and third levels. And as I said in a previous thread, having him is such a great injury-risk reducer for your QB and RB1. Finding someone to fill that role serviceably is of the utmost importance for that reason, on top of the importance of short yardage proficiency in general.

I love Knighten, Dodds and Turner but I think from what I've been hearing that Knighten is going to be the most spectacular this season!

I think it will be Turner that redshirts. My sister taught him at Richland, and it sounds like he needed another procedure to clean up the knee he injured last season.

I think it was just his meniscus, so he might be able to help us at some point this season, but he would be the logical one to redshirt, if at all possible. Let him get healthy.

3 healthy scholarship RBs is not enough. Will we try to get a late transfer?

We have more than 3. Washington, Dodds, Turner, Knighten. And I'm sure I'm missing a few older backup guys. Dodds, Turner are coming off injuries. But both by all accounts are looking sharp in fall camp

Kelsey Johnson, 6-3, 248 has a rushing touchdown and is a good blocker. I could see him in an H-back role Also a reliable pass catcher.

I meant 3 that are healthy and available to play---if Turner is injured/redshirting as suggested earlier in this thread, and DP is out for the season. That leaves only 3 available scholarship running backs. In my view that is dangerous territory and I wonder if the coaches are looking to supplement, like they just did on the DL. If I were wish-casting I would want guy that is 230 pounds and can run into a brick wall on 4th and 1 to get a yard for us without worrying about him getting injured.

For what it's worth, our 6-foot-4, 250-pound tight end Klopfenstein is already used as a short-yardage back by our offense. At least he is in CFB 26 where he's the designated fullback in our goal line offense. I did not edit that into the game. CFB 26 must have gotten it from Baylor.

He always scores.

Turner isn't currently injured unless it just happened. My understanding is he got hurt last season at some point. He's making quite an impression at fall camp. Sounds like all 3 are

if so that's great news indeed. We need all of Knighten, Turner, and Dodds to be ready to contribute if and when needed, and likely at least 3, if not all 4, will play in week one. With DP going down, I can't imagine Turner redshirting unless he's injured or just simply not ready for some reason.

The locked on Baylor video yesterday goes into detail about the 3 in position to fill DPs role. Good insight into how all 3 are fairing in fall camp. Might take a bit for them to acclimate but I think the RB room will be just fine by mid season. Not that DP isn't a big loss. He absolutely is. But RB is likely BUs deepest position talent wise.

I would assume he's the H-Back full time as long as he stays healthy. Big time asset in a specialized role.
