Just a few days ago it was set at 5.5...now it's bumped up to 6.5.

I feel like we will end up around 4 to 5 wins. It'll be painful...but will hopefully lead to a change.

This is the least excited I've been about a new college football season in a while. Part of it is Baylor's meh status...but also just the general direction college football seems to be headed. Sucks. I've been a college football diehard for so long.

The two things that have me a little interested to watch are Lagway...and seeing if the new DC can do anything this mess of a defense.

Sicem.

The biggest dependent variable for me is Lagway staying healthy. I think if he can stay healthy, there is a chance we could scratch our way to six or seven wins….that's not really anything to write home about, but it may be enough to keep Dave's job. Unfortunately, I do think Lagway is going to be running for his life, because that offensive line is going to struggle

Spav has a good track record with talented QBs. I hope they can work some magic together.

Yeah, like I'm pretty confident Lagway will look decent throwing the ball and commanding the offense, I just worry about him staying healthy. He's been injury prone. Fortunately, big 12 defenders are not SEC defenders. But still, he really needs to limit the amount of hits he takes

I just hope we get blown out every game so the decision is black and white for the AD

I mean what's another bad year under Aranda? There's been 5 others..

Did they correct his throwing motion. I thought the he has a bum shoulder so his form and follow through is off which is why he has a history of int's. Either way I hope he's wearing those big giant helmets because he will need it.

Super low expectations, love it, that's when BU generally does well. Examples: Think 2011 (coming off years of suck and 1st bowl since '95.....went 9-3 & RG3 Heisman). Think 2018 (coming off 1 win joke......won bowl game to finish 7-6). Think 2021 (coming off Covid debacle 2 wins.......went 12-2, NY6 bowl win, Big12 Champs, best season ever).

Good lord. Nobody celebrates mediocrity quite like you. Are you really going to call a potential 7-6 season a success? Is the bar for dummy Dave that low for you? Not to mention all that would do is give Dave another 10 year contract to further embarrass himself.

Where did I say that? You need to brush up on your reading comprehension. Let me try to help you. In 2011, July/Aug, nobody was saying BU would go 9-3 & RG3 would snag the Heisman. Same with summer 2018, nobody thought BU could qualify for a bowl & win it after suffering thru the 1 win debacle the year before. 2021? Following a 2 win season, nobody thought Baylor would have, arguably, the best season in school history. 12 wins, NY6 Bowl win, Big12 Champs. Nobody saw that. Not even some Iowa Clones fan moonlighting as a Baylor guy. Super low expectations and BU performed well above them. That's what I'm saying. Right now expectations are super low, coming off poor/mediocre seasons 3 of the last 4 years. 5 wins last year; opening the possibility of an 8 win or better year which would continue the theme of my examples. Baylor football has a history of doing that, I gave 3 examples of it. That's why I'm excited with the super low expectations that are flooding this forum.

How did you even glean that from his post?!

Because that's the norm with him. The dude starts every August with the slogan get 6. 6-6 in the B12 is ****ing pathetic. And it shows just how low expectations are under the clown running the program. 6-6 isn't a successful season in any circumstance. If being critical of the direction of Baylor football is "moonlighting" as a Baylor fan so be it.

Dude, I'll give you credit for one thing. You're excellent at completely making stuff up then accusing whoever you're currently going back & forth with of saying it.

2010 was my freshman year, and there was actually a lot of hype for the 2011 season. Everyone knew we had a ton of offensive firepower, RGIII was known as a guy that could basically carry a team to victory with his athleticism, etc.

2019, we seemed to be on a clear upward trajectory coming off the 2018 season. Had a returning quarterback and a lot of returning players from the defense with the same coordinators on both sides of the ball

2021 it was somewhat surprising, but we had a few key upperclassman returning that had been on the 2019 team IIRC.

I personally don't see the clear parallel between those years and this year. Our team consists of a very random group of free agents rentals that haven't played together especially on offense, a new defensive coordinator, new offensive line coach, and a head coach that hasn't really had a good season since 2021 - and those players are obviously all gone

Aranda seemingly isn't the answer, but unless a new coach brings out the donors to spend at a different level than we have now it seems unlikely that we'll be anything other than a mediocre program going forward unless there is a major overhaul of laws regarding college athletics.

A good coach with a good scheme can overcome some of that, but to what end? Say we hit the coaching jackpot and find a guy who makes it work. How long does an elite coach stay at a relatively unfunded program when he's a hot name?

You have to try and start fresh if/when this season doesn't work out, but I don't see another golden era being a regime change away.
Karl, it didn't happen.

Did you or did you not repeatedly talk about getting 6 last year?? And really every year. Getting 6 means absolutely nothing… unless of course we're cheering for mediocrity. If Dave magically wins 8 I'll be on here eating crow as usual. But the odds heavily support another miserable season. Anything less than 8 and he should be fired. Hell if he starts 2-2 he should be fired. It's beyond time to move on from DA

I think you have a point, but I think our donor base is very much in "show me" territory. Show me that you can take moderate talent and do something with them. I think there is a sense where people collectively stopped believing in Aranda after his team came out and played Air Force and looked like they'd rather be anywhere than playing football. I know that's where I checked out. Times are tough, and people are not going to flush their money away with a poor coach. Bottom line, I know there's a chicken/egg argument to be made with winning football games in the modern era, but we can at least do something about the chicken

That said, I doubt we ever have a donor step up like a Cody Campbell that's going to bankroll us a great team, but I think that we could be in the top four or five spenders in the big 12

It's difficult to tell how good Baylor will or won't be, and the same could be said about the most the teams on the schedule. I would probably pen in Auburn, BYU, and TTU as losses and pencil in UH as a loss, but the rest of the schedule - barring surprises - shouldn't be anything special. 7+ wins should be reasonably achievable, provided that there are no major injuries.

I probably did once they got into the meat of the schedule and I could tell it was going to be another mediocre year. They were 4-3 then 4-4 and my hope had switched from an 8 or 9 win season (which I initially predicted before the season) to just get 6 and make a bowl game so they could possibly finish 7-6 with a winning record. Not sure about you, but I would much rather my team finish 7-6 than 5-7. I know they're both mediocre, but any winning record beats the hell out of a 5-7 losing season.
FYI, a lot of the time when I'm posting "Just Get 6 Bears" and stuff like that its a joke. I'm referring back to the dark days of 2000-2009 when for one of those years, the brilliant BU Marketing Dept decided it was a good idea to print T-shirts that said "GET 6" on them; it was around '05 or '06 i think.

I don't disagree with your larger sentiment. 6-6 and 7-5 beat the hell out of 5-7. I'm just tired of the administration seemingly accepting mediocrity. I get Baylor is historically a .500 ish program. Thst doesn't mean that should be the base of a good season. And that seems to be the thinking of Linda and Co.
