This summer a Facebook memory of mine popped up where I commented on them leaving the Big 12th. A friend claimed they would be winning the SEC within 5 years and competing for NC. When I asked him this summer how that was going his response was typical deflection about Baylor not doing anything either. When I told him I was willing to wager that in the next 5 years they still won't win the SEC he simply ignored it and never responded.

made up over that period of time, but haven't won any over the last 28 seasons and counting (obviously not winning one this season) which includes zero for the 21st Century thus far. And keep in mind they've only been in the SEC for half of that time. For all their condescending arrogance, by contrast, we've won three conference titles over the last 13 seasons.

Using that logic the New York Mets, Chicago White Sox and the Los Angeles Angels are also sleeping giants....and those franchises have each actually won a legit title in the past 40 years.
Texas A&M has lot of money.....but so does everyone else in the SEC. The only time A&M was ever really good at football was the last 10 years of a dying South West Conference.
Texas A&M joined the BIGXII in 1996.
In the past 30 years of playing big boy football Texas A&M has had exactly 3 seasons of winning more than 10 games: 1998, 2012, 2025.
98 was the last time A&M had a 1st place team, and the last time they played for a conference title.
Texas A&M joined the SEC in 2012, and they have still never played in the SEC title game.
Missouri played in the 13 and 14 SEC title game. Texas played in the 24 SEC title game.

Texas A&M's culture problems will always limit them in football and basketball...even in this pay for play era that we now currently reside.
Never particularly been an aggie fan. But I'd rather see them beat other SEC teams than other SEC teams get more wins and higher rankings.
They tended to have Baylor's number, like TCU has for the past several years, so there is no love lost. But they are technically still in the state of Texas. I have good friends who have been afflicted with aggie fandom, so I have to tread lightly.

And Elko is right to a certain point, but it's not really a thing a coach should say through the press. A lot of "real" fans are also loyal followers of the cesspool. Social media is here to stay, it's a fact of life, and you have to have a thick skin.
Unfortunately, knowing from my own personal experience, too many people in high places really don't.
It's just silly sports fan smack talk. You shouldn't take it too seriously. But too many people do.

He's absolutely correct that TexAgs is a cesspool, but angering the most rabid supporters of your program doesn't seem very smart, even for an Aggie.

You're talking about a program that canned Jimbo Fisher and had no problem paying out $77 million.
To put things in perspective:
Fisher reportedly received $20 million+ immediately after the firing, and is scheduled to receive approximately $7.2 million/year through 2031.
That buyout wil be completely paid for by their Athletics Department and 12th Man Foundation, with no offset clause (meaning that any future salary Fisher receives will not reduce the amount owed - which is basically the opposite of James Franklin's buyout with Penn State).
Long story short - If Texas A&M wants to move on from Elko next week, then money is no object.
