Must be so angry. For two reasons. First, because the conditions (crowd, game-time, weather, blackout, "down" opponent, rival, drone show, expected "momentum") for the TCU game set up for a PERFECT evening, getting the fans engaged again, and moving to 5-1, and of course we screwed the pooch yet again at home in front of our fans.

And second, because I'm sure Linda has his hands tied and there's no way he can fire Dave when he knows the damage to the fan base from letting this go on without a firing could be irreparable for years.

I don't know anything about Doug, but I'm guessing he's doing what he can. He made an effort to get folks to the game, he succeeded in getting butts on the seats for TCU. He just couldn't make the team not do what it did on Saturday.

Hopefully, he's spending more time looking ahead for solutions than being angry. He pretty much had a good idea what he was getting into.

We can only wait and see how it all goes.

Only one coach has been fired this year, and it was Mike Locksley at Maryland, whose team/program had bottomed out to an embarrassing level after years of futility.

Just because Dave hasn't been fired yet doesn't mean he won't be. I'd imagine the standard for being retained remains whatever it was before the TCU loss. The TCU loss just made it harder to achieve.

I'm ready to move on from Dave. Have been for years now. But there's no major benefit to doing it now as opposed to later. The dynamics of this season -- and Dave's limitations -- remain the same. I suspect we'll end up with a 6-6 record (7-5 at best) and we'll have a new coach next season.

Doug doesn't have the authority to get angry. Ask Linda.

A not-so-ill-wind tells me your first paragraph is keenly accurate but the second one is wide of the mark. We'll see.

Agree with this. We have the rest of the year to evaluate and explore alternatives. Not sure the job is as appealing to the next guy though if we fire the current coach mid season with a 4-2 record.

This is a good point. As depressing as Saturday's loss was -- and as hopeless as most of us feel right now as a result of it -- our record right now still leaves open the possibility of achieving reasonable goals for this season.

Most of us probably don't expect Dave to reach those goals -- and I personally am tired of giving him chances to after so many failures -- but from an optics standpoint it makes more sense to let the season play out and let him fail again before pulling the trigger.

Yes, we will. Mostly by seeing how long it is before McLane is anywhere near full again.
