Some would also argue the Coffee Shop out in McGregor would qualify as well, but not quite as greasy as Harold Waites.

Griffs, world cup cafe, butter my biscuit... Kinda hard to just be a cheap breakfast joint. All the really good ones only lasted like 2 years...

Been to World Cup & Butter my Biscuit, will look into Griffs.

Seems like there is always a hole in the wall everyplace where the old guys hang out and read the newspaper, looking for that place.

I went to Brown House Cafe today for the first time. They serve breakfast all day. I tried their Chicken Tenders and Pancakes for $12.95. Outstanding. I wouldn't consider them a greasy spoon, but it was a good place. I'll be back.

My wife and I went to Harold Waite's one time about 20+ years ago prior to the smoking laws being changes. Pretty sure we walked out with Stage 4 cancer. Praise be to God, we're in remission now.

Cupp's on Speight. Sit on the round stools and watch them fry up your breakfast.

. Best greasy spoon in town. For lunch you can go back and get the best greasy hamburger and fries. Just need plenty of napkins.

I've probably had well over 2000 gallons of coffee sitting in the Coffee Shop in Mcgregor over the years.

They haven't updated their chairs since probably 1985, and don't sleep on their pies because it is fabulous. Their breakfast buffet has to be the greasiest food in the county.

Interesting thing about Cupps is that although they have been in the same drive in since the forties, that place has been a burger joint for more than a hundred years due to a previous owner …same griddle the whole century.

Eat at Cupp's right off the north bound i35 next to campus.

I was fired from Cupps for "mashin' the patties' with my spatula to make them cook faster. I got one warning, then the proprietor said "that's it, your fired!" Only time I've ever been fired.

. I think they opened current location in1947. Can remember my dad taking me there in the early 60's. I don't think anything has ever been upgraded inside or outside. Get anymore than about 10 or 12 people inside and it's full . Greasiest cheeseburger basket in town …. And the best

I was eating at Cupp's several years ago when a big man came in and sat in the booth behind me.

As he ordered the Chicken Fried Steak lunch plate, he told them -- 'double fries, no salad'.

You know, just like the folks do in SoCal when ordering at a restaurant.

On another visit, I witnessed a couple of solicitors for a 'charitable' cause come in and start pestering the customers. Betty showed them the door in a New York minute!

To be clear, it was not necessarily an endorsement, but rather the greasy spoon aspect I was referring to.

I don't know how long Harold Waites has been at its current location but I would guess it has been 20-30 years longer than you said since it has been renovated. It looks very 70s to me rather than 90s and it was that style and seemed quite aged in the actual 90s.

The original Harold Waites was in the Golden Triangle, which was built in 1961 across VM from Westview Village. Apparently it was originally Smitty's Pancake House, but I never remember anything but Harold Waites (my earliest memories are going there probably around 1965 or 66, when I was 3 or so). Golden Triangle was torn down in about 1979 or 1980 to build what was then United Bank Plaza. I would think Harold Waites moved to its current location around that time.

Harold Waite's was at the far left end, under the higher roof.

I dont know exactly when Golden Triangle was torn down. But I recall the building in its place being completed around early part of 83 to maybe summer of 83?

I'd throw Hecho en Waco's hat into the brunch ring, their steak and eggs both slams and goes hard.

Quote:

Roaches have a higher percentage of protein than the famous cricket(around 35% as compared to 21%), and are lower in chitin. They also contain a similar vitamin and mineral makeup, but a study was presented in 2018 which showed roaches to have nearly 7x the amount of vitamin B12as a similar amount of beef, and double that of crickets!
Bring it on

CT, I've heard many folks say the same thing..Sammy is a fantastic operator.. In the early 70's, breakfast for me at George's was a couple of pickled eggs and a Slim Jim. :-)
