I hope the new performing arts center in Waco near the arena can be anything close to Buddy Holly Hall in Lubbock. Toured it today and it's impressive for a town Lubbock's size.

Very nice
they have brought in acts that would never have been in Lubbock before. There are at least 2-3 shows weekly, from touring Broadway to head liner acts looking to fill in dates between weekend sets in Phoenix and DFW for example.Going to see Frankie Vallie Friday night.

Man, Frankie Valli has to be pushin 90! Ray Price was one of the oldest I've heard perform , and he died, I believe, a month before he turned 88..If Frankie Valli can come close to the notes he used to hit, he's a natural wonder! Hope he can and hope you enjoy the show!beardoc said:

More than understandable..If he even gets close to the falsetto notes that brought him fame, i hope the crowd gives him the love he surely deserves..His notes on 'Rag Doll" were unbelievable.. Edit: And even if he can't, the fact that he's on stage givin his all to perform and please the audience should rightly be applauded and appreciated..From what I've gathered, he can still "bring it!" Incidentally, this was a major point of effort for Ken and Alice Starr near the end of their tenure at Baylor. There's interesting demographic and financial research on mid-sized towns with universities, good health care/hospitals, satisfactory housing options, and a lively civics scene (theater, symphony, live concerts, etc.). This would attract/retain a higher level of retiree to Waco than we've ever seen before.

I noticed they are coming to Oklahoma, DFW, and the Texas Hill Country several times this year and I'm trying to figure out how ashamed I should be that I'm interested. But I am interested.
I thought I remembered a Waco-Trib article mentioning Amarillo's Performing Arts Center as the model which is beautiful. While going to look for some pics, I ran across this event and got distracted.

Saw them at the Cactus here in Lubbock a few weeks ago. The bass singer was ill, had a substitute who is, frankly, better.They put on a great show in a 200 seat theater.CammoTX said:

So, Frankie looks every bit of 89 walking on stage, but he can still hit, and hold, the high notes. From "Sherry" to "Rag Doll" the pipes were amazing. He was on stage for 1:45 with no intermission, chitchat or filler.

Buddy Holly museum is pretty cool. The reason Elton John started wearing glasses was because he wanted to look like Buddy. Also, the Beatles were named the Beatles because of Buddy Holly and the Crickets.

Roughly 4800 in the big auditorium and about 2700 in the smaller.
Liberty University just built one....it going to be used by the school (obviously) and the city of Lynchburg for performances and other events.
