I am always behind on the News. - Way behind sometimes. Why did Yessoufou leave Baylor Team? I assumed he liked it at Baylor........

From ChatGPT:

Tounde Yessoufou said he left Baylor for St. John's because of player development, winning, and the opportunity to play for Rick Pitino. He believed another college season under Pitino would better prepare him for the NBA. nypost.com

Money also drew considerable attention: reports placed his compensation package at roughly $6$7 million, although those figures were not officially confirmed. Yessoufou publicly denied that money drove his decision, saying it was based on "basketball, development, and winning."

On another note, he had a nice exhibition game today versus the Horns (23-5-4).

Mainly money. St John's is one of the bigger spenders in MBB.

He declared for the draft, then later removed his name when it was obvious he wasn't going to be a 1st round selection.

It will likely work out well for both parties. BU was able to get 2-3 other solid players for the cost of 1 Tounde. Big contributing factor to our great depth this year.

No one ever admits it publicly, just as the 28-year marrying the 60-year-old millionaire denies it, but, seriously, of course it was the money.

I think we got outbid

And more power to him. He gave us a good year.

I'm actually thinking staying in college and getting paid big $ may be one of the best options for him atm.

Being outbid is one way to look at it. We essentially had to choose between Tounda and Isaac Williams, and I believe we resoundingly made the right choice. We then made the intelligent choice to allocate the rest of our budget to more efficient players like Celiscar who know how to play winning basketball. For all the blame Drew has endured during the portal era - and much of the blame was rightfully placed -- early returns suggest he absolutely crushed the portal this time around.

While it doesn't seem to me we have to do a pure moneyball approach to our NIL, we do have to be wise with what comes in. This years build looks great!

So far, it looks like the correct choice was made.

Looks like it's going to work out for both teams. I don't see Tounde being a first round pick this year unless he becomes a POY candidate, so getting as much money as he can right now is smart. And it looks like we were able to get more players that fit the system.
