So I am an OU fan, and y'all played a tough game. However, I can't imagine a 30 minute delay on your end was that hard compared to being on a bus for 6ish hours before the game... also NCAA rule is the teams have to have a 30 minute warmup, so this wasn't some gracious gift to OU. she just comes off as kind of a sore loser. Just my two cents! Good luck the rest of the season!

45 mins delay, starting & stopping, starting & stopping. Did you watch the presser? Nicki explained it very well. Oh, and she also said that's not why BU lost, she said they didn't play good enough. So in fact she doesn't come off as a sore loser at all.

Same. She was frustrated at the things she should have been - everything. Her coaching, the team's execution, OU's travel schedule…. If a team isn't on the court by the time tip-off occurs, it should be a forfeit. It's not BU's fault if OU doesn't arrive in time. It's been known for a week that a severe weather system was on its way. Make plans, leave earlier, and get here in time. Now that's not the reason why the team lost, but there is an agreed upon start time. If you are not there, you lose. I think NC was even more mad at her team's lack of execution than she let on. As she said, no matter what happens, you have to be tough. I think this will be a learning point for the team. It had better be…

You can't win if you don't play defense. Simple as that.

We held them to season low 3pt shooting %. Was that good or the long bus ride..?

Probably her best presser of the year, and it was in a loss.

I guess I view this press conference differently than most on here. It just sounds like she is making excuse after excuse. At least it is nice to see her with a little fire and anger. We'll see how they respond against Texas. If they triple team "liss", then maybe our coach should have a backup game plan.

It does sound that way but I just think she says what she really thinks with little to no coachspeak. She is more unfiltered than what I would have thought. She answers questions like if she was talking to a colleague and not filtering her words for the press.

Here comes a fine from the B12 office for telling the truth, I mean bad-mouthing the officiating.

Long time lurker, first time poster here.

Just want to clear up some misinformation that Coach Baranczyk stated at the beginning of the press conference. I live in OKC and the weather was absolutely not a factor Tuesday night or even most of Wednesday morning. Cold front was coming in but zero precip in the OKC metro so don't let that lie cover up for OU not handling their travel plans appropriately. Everyone around here knew the weather was coming and had been preparing since Sunday. Just unprofessionalism on OU's part and not planning ahead.

CNC had a right to be frustrated about it. Now did it cause the loss, no. The real question is how much did OU's delay affect fans in seats vs. the rain/weather in Waco at the time. I have no doubt more butts in seats would have been good for a few points and maybe even a couple makeup calls for the constant no calls.

I also have to say that the delays should have affected OU much more, as they were forced to get changed on the bus and rush around to get started. Baylor wasn't forced to do that. I also tend to believe that were the situation reversed most other Baylor fans would agree with me. Fact remains with seven available players on Baylor's roster they still have more talent than OU has, and on paper should have won both games... I think OU has one McDonald's All-American on their roster in Williams, and just a couple other ESPN Top 100 recruits coming out of high school. I just think they are experienced, have great chemistry, and won't give up - that is something BU has at times, but not consistently.

That being said I sure hope Baylor smokes Texas. Both games!!

Maybe its because she is new to the Big 12 and this part of the country during winter but all other
Big 12 teams when travel is more then a 100 miles arrive a day ahead especially to W Virginia. Like CNC said everyone knew this storm was coming - OK should have planned better. Baylor easily could have and rightly so called it a forfeit and taken the rest before Texas who by the way is already here for tomorrow and they are just 90 miles away.

I would agree with this. I suspect the weather forecast had a lot to do with attendance. And without attendance it is tough to create the noise and excitement level that helps the team have a home court advantage. OU lucked out on this from all perspectives, weather and their inability to plan their travel not resulting in a forfeit.

Perhaps this will be the old scenario of winning the one that really counts if the two teams meet in the Big XII championship.

I am hoping that Nikki will be reprimanded not fined. That is often the result of heat of the battle criticism. If she continues to be critical of the officiating after a cooling off period she will definitely be fined.

The delay would have affected OU more then BU. They literally got off the bus and played the game what 20 minutes later? We lost because the defense was garbage yet again. That said the post game interview from CNC indicates will be ready for TX tomm. Bears by 6 tomm night

Not necessarily. If BU had warmed up then had to sit around longer to play, it would be like a pitcher whose rhythm is thrown off by a brief rain delay or even a long offensive inning by his own team. Or they had too long to sit around and think about the delay.

OU didn't have time to think about it. They just got off the bus and started playing. Took them about 12-14 minutes of game time to heat up.

Sometimes the best rounds of golf you play are the ones where you get out of the car, change your shoes and walk straight to the first tee.

Poorly ref'ed game; they gave OU exactly what they wanted: the foul line. I think our players were frustrated by the calls. But not one of our better shooting days. Especially around the basket.

just like a coach after Uconn we had sounds similar yet we have to back her or we don't love baylor. The coach did what she could to have a safe healthy game her coaching is not a issue we looked very slow on D and lost by 1 that's two more free throws and we got it. So many factors played into why this game was not normal at all. But she rolled with the punches the players did not execute. And she mentioned that but she was frustrated. This is coming right off the court from a loss. If she was like this team killed it tonight nothing we want to change i would be worried but she wants the best for our athletes in all situations not just basketball. She wants them to be great people when leaving this program. It's gonna be a conversation about effort and heart. Everyone is going to give their best shot so we don't get to take games off ever. I support CNC and what she is doing at baylor with the circumstances she is under. Yes we have good athletes so don't come at me with that argument. We are short handed. Fouls were clearly not the same but that is basketball we make two more foul shots we win. That's it. I think fans of baylor will not realize how great the Big 12 is until it is tournament time and these teams are upsetting other opponents. This Oklahoma team just came off beating texas who also is in the top 10 who full court presses and has depth and all the things. I just think Oklahoma is a great team and is going to prove things in the tournament. I think a loss isn't always a bad thing look at the mens team. They are up and down for different reasons. We just have to improve to be 100 percent in march. If we have a stretch of 5 wins in a row come march we are playing for a national championship. This team is gonna come out banging against texas and we need fans in the stands!!!

This unfiltered manner is one of many things I love about CNC! She was frustrated and had every right to be on many issues! OU's trip planning is Jr High level! They should have had to forfeit. Vic has UT in Waco on Wed for a Fri game! She was frustrated w players. Poor defense on important possessions; poor shot selection, list goes on. CNC is a winner and she will pull the best out of this team. It's a tough year on so many levels. Future of WBB is very bright with CNC! Sic the Whorns!!

Blackie: Great post! I was just thinking about possibly playing them in Big 12 Tournament and beating them like a drum! That would be awesome and so well deserved. That game should have been forfeited. Ridiculous.

Who decides if it is a forfeit? What are the rules in a case like this?

How long do you want to ignore this user?
You know if we had taken the forfeiture, everybody would be writing an asterisk next to our record for the rest of the year. For what effectively moved the game only about 45 minutes, that wasn't worth it, and we did what we had to do.

But, yes, OU's lack of planning was unprofessional and inexcusable, especially in light of the fact that the Longhorns somehow had the foresight to prepare where the Sooners did not. They deserve all the criticism they get, and probably a lot more.

All things said, I wonder if we'd be complaining about the delay had we won? I think this is only an issue because we lost to them. Again. At home. I believe in this day and age with COVID and everything else when faced with some adversity you have to find a way to pivot, adjust and handle it. Young people are resilient. Now that I've had some time to mull it over, I don't think it necessarily benefited one team or the other. Every single player is different. Forcing a team to forfeit on account of travel delays is petty, it's not as if they were hours delayed, right? The game was scheduled @7 and it started at what, 7:45? Not that huge of a deal and I'm glad we showed character and allowed them the time to get here and start as soon as possible.

Now, moving on. How do we beat Texas? As we know, they say they pride themselves on their defense. They are gritty and also have height. But so does Baylor. IMO, Queen will need to have a BIG game, as they'll be double and triple teaming Smith. What should the game plan be to contain them? They don't really have that one player that consistently leads them, do they?

I'm glad we didn't take a forfeit. It was a short delay, and the teams were able to play. Deeper team won last night. Hopefully our team learns and improves from it. I know that's hard to do since we aren't as deep, but one can hope.

But it wasn't travel delays; it was a flat out clusterf'ck by the OU staff & coaches not leaving on Tues. They deserve all the heat they are getting on this & then some - and they should have forfeited the game.

I don't know if that's directed at me or not. I don't think we lost because of OU's failure to show up on time. If anything, I think that whole fiasco hurt them more than it hurt us.

I leave it at this message for OU's staff: PPPPP. You pulled a rabbit out of the hat and still won this time, but have enough respect for yourselves and for everyone else involved to not needlessly create situations like this.

(to the uninitiated, Prior Planning Prevents Poor Performance).

How long do you want to ignore this user?
Does anyone actually blame OU's thoughtlessness and poor planning on our loss? I think it was more how OU's choices, and Baylor's working to accommodate them, pretty much ruined Parents' Night for everybody, the weather notwithstanding.
