Rebounding…..where does it come from?

Last year's team was below average rebounding at 4 of 5 positions but the problem was masked by Buggs being so above average rebounding at the other position.

Where does the team get better rebounding next season?
Incremental improvement across the board?
One or two players take big leaps?
Slightly better D leading to different rebound angles?
Better rebounding fundamentals being stressed?

With the Portal showing a clear emphasis on being a D focused team, great D is undermined by allowing the opponent O boards. Who cleans up the misses?

Should note that last season's problems also included turnovers and steals (in both categories opponents had better averages than us) but those issues appear to have been addressed (hopefully) in the Portal. We outrebounded opponents last year but not at a rate expected by point differential.

Buggs had 344 of our total 1368 rebounds. She accomplished that feat in playing 996 of our total 6,825 minutes played. Over 25% of our rebounds while playing 14.5% of our minutes.
Impressive for her, scary for next season.

I agree - a potential large concern at the moment. Hopefully we are still looking for at least 1 more players who can give us some rebounding. A turnover reduction along with an improvement in steals given the roster change hopefully gives us 4-5 more possession/ game than we had last year. Helps a bit, but Buggs kept us in games with her rebounding

You're looking at rebounding and Im concerned about scoring.

As of now, I think Scott is going to have to score a lot more than last, and that's saying something.

Someone will have to establish themselves as our 2nd or 3rd go to scorer or it's gonna get ugly.

Not very likely that Scott will score more (much less a lot more).
But reasonably expect better collective scoring at every other position (especially at 1 & 5).

we only had two double digit scorers this year. Won't be difficult to improve there.

"Where does the team get better rebounding next season?"

From sitting on the bench if one (regardless of who they are) doesn't bust it to rebound.

Effort is part of the formula, but only part.

Over the past couple of years Florida and Michigan in MBB have shown the vast importance of size and athleticism in the 4&5 positions. But the Spurs (NBA) also show the importance of big guards in rebounding. When Castle and Harper play with either Wemby or Kornet, the opponent's offensive rebounds basically stop.

Size and athleticism across the lineup is a huge component of rebounding. That said one player like Buggs or Dennis Rodman can radically alter the rebounding edge. It is a very multifaceted topic.
