And the question is why. It wasn't fouls. Medical issues?

Cox had to have medical issues as she could have subbed Brown when he hands were on her knees sucking wind from being run all over the court on defense.

Kim's brief postgame interview without naming names blamed Kalani and Lauren. She said you've got to get production in big games from your key players.

I have a feeling that Lauren may have gotten a little on Kim's bad side. I would like to think it was medical....
but NAAH ! Pretty sure Kim was upset.

A teaching moment just in time for UCorn.

As talented as we are, we still can't have Brown and Cox either not show up, or sit on the bench for a big chunk of the game, or both when we're playing higher end competition like Stanford - especially on the road. This game proved that.

Lack of energy from Lauren Cox. Probably had a negative attitude/body language too. She will have plenty of time to think about playing just 15 minutes in the eventual loss.

The thing is...the whole big lineup thing is quickly leaving women's basketball.

Look at the NBA and Men's college basketball. It's a small ball league.

We can't keep relying on our bigs to win us games, now i will say this; Had we had Morris, we'd have won this game easily.

You are right. We cannot have Landrum, Grayson and others be turnover machines when we have the potential momentum to rally in the fourth quarter to win the game..

I mean...yes turnovers kill us, but at the same time, teams are figuring out ways to defend us and attack us on offense (The elite teams at least).

I had a feeling A. Smith would kill us. She was awesome in the senior national team for Australia.

I think we need better defense against the three point line.

From a friend who travels with the team, Lauren was ill yesterday. Kalani - I don't get it! She should be dominant in every game.

I and everyone else would rather think Lauren WAS NOT feeling well rather than her not giving her all. I have diabetes as well and know how it can treat you. Sometimes it can cause you problems even if you do everything right. Thanks for sharing. We still LOVE Lauren.

It appears that the days of Paris from OU and Brown from BU will only get you so far. The bigs on good teams are so skilled at shooting the 3 and are so mobil that the large immobile centers can't hope to keep up, leaving wide open three's in many instances. I don't doubt that we have the firepower to win conference and go to the sweet 16 once again, but when we meet the upper tier teams from out of conference who also have bigs that can hit the 3 and aren't afraid to defend down low then we have our hands full especially if we are not hitting from the outside.

Also, just an observation but in the big games, when several of our players are not hitting it quickly spreads to everyone else on the floor like an ebola virus. We need to find a few players who say, "I don't care what my teammates are doing, I know that I am good enough to beat these guys and to make my shots." We need that type of leadership and I really don't see it. Cox may be the only one who displays that attitude from time to time. But apparently she was sick yesterday. I love her and hope she feels better. Juicy always seems to get cautious and doesn't take the ball to the basket in big games. Jackson did not show that attitude yesterday and missed some what must be layups for her in the midrange. Kalani had at least three or four unproductive touches when she was in her sweet spot.

The players what I have hope for at this stage are Nylissa and Moon. They both showed a lot yesterday.

Sorry to hear Lauren Cox was ill yesterday. I'm not sure now who Kim Mulkey was calling out after the loss to Stanford. Probably doesn't matter now. The players will enjoy Christmas, then lift weights, practice a few days, take care of UTRGV, and then, focus on preparing with purpose on #1 UConn.

My prayer is that it taught them something vital about being ready BEFORE the game!! We can't keep waiting to get with it after half-time. I want them to come out like they did Morehead State, realizing of course, that isn't the same as a Stanford or UConn.

I,too, have diabetes and it can sneak up on you. And after my sugar drops it can take me hours to recover. It's certainly not as easy as many people think. It's a constant battle and sometimes you don't win. And being excited can cause it to be worse. And I suspect that Lauren was quite excited yesterday.

I worry about Lauren but thank goodness she she is surrounded by a top-notch medical staff.

Cox and Brown need to play big time in big time games if they are going to be more than third team all Americans. Still, it's early, and this team is working on developing a point guard. Brown and Cox neede to get 12 points each at least at their positions against good teams.

A couple of factors that probably led to the loss...1) Mulkey love's teaching moments and any game that is NOT a conference game is a teaching moment for her. Ill or not, Mulkey was sending a message to Cox and Brown by sitting them so much, especially in the first half. Looking at the body language, Mulkey is constantly having to figure out a way to motivate Brown and control Cox. 2) Our outside shooting MUST improve for us to have any chance of making a run during the NCAA tournament. Shooting less than 20% in the first half will dig you a big hole against a quality opponent as we saw Saturday. 3) Without a true point guard I'm fearful that Mulkey will not be able to work her usual magic. It has been a staple of all her teams, especially the elite teams. We have been spoiled by that success. 4) Lastly, who is this year's spark player and team leader? Who is this team's version of Melissa Jones or Kristy Wallace? Someone has to be able to rally the troops besides the coaching staff.

Moon could be our spark if given the chance.

Brown and Cox are capable of dropping 20 points a night on every team. They need to average 30 minutes a game, regardless of opponent. They are allowed to relax too much in most games. There is no reason that Brown has the 4th most minutes per game.

We need to see more of Smith. She is much more capable of scoring than Richards and it may be time that we see more of her.

We need to see more of DeCosta, also. She is a flat or baller.

So how about a little blame to KM. They have been too tight on the big stage for years. Miss a shot or two, sit down. Turn over, sit down. Poor shot selection, huge scowl. Control this, motivate that? How about I stress my team out so much they just dont perform. Lol. Look, I will give give some credit to her for toning down her histrionics the last few years. But how about a little I didn't scheme properly, I didnt make enough of the right adjustments, etc. No complaints where we are at as a program but let's be honest, there is more to it than our impact players have to show up....

There is no BLAME that needs to be given to anyone.

Do we know when the Lady Bears return form Christmas break?

Thanks for sharing and God bless you & longtimebear. I wouldn't wish Type One on my enemies. My pancreas is broken, but still functioning (thank God!), but Type One runs in my family. As you & longtimebear well know, It is horrible cross to bear. Only 0.4% of Americans are saddled with this terrible disease. It must be "managed," often, every single day of one's life. The more active you are, the more you must manage. And, "management" is not an exact science. No two afficted persons are exactly alike.

Despite conscientious "management" by my 22 y.o. sports-playing nephew, he has had some surprise episodes - some very scary.

We will never know what Lauren's issues are. Most Type One's I know are courageous & quite private about their daily struggles. We do know she is one amazing young woman.

Lauren and Kalani were both double teamed almost every time they touched the ball in the deep paint and Stanford had size and bodies to match up with Baylor there. In addition their big players could shoot from the perimeter, so Baylor had to extend its defense against them.

I think that both players, for whatever reasons, were not on their game that day, but they did not get much help from their teammates, who needed to hit a few shots out away from the basket to make Stanford have to adjust their defensive alignment, and in the first half we failed to do that, allowing Stanford to extend its lead and put Baylor in a bind by forcing them to play from far behind almost the entire game.

I rarely accuse a Baylor basketball player of simply going through the motions, much less of quitting on their teammates, but many of them, like most of us, have gotten discouraged at times and allowed that to diminish our performance, which is a very different thing from quitting. We did not have anyone just fail to play against Stanford, and our comeback was fueled by Jackson and Smith, neither of whom had done much in the first half, but played with admirable energy and determination down the stretch against Stanford. Baylor was one or two missed shots by Stanford from winning that game, but credit to the Cardinal, they hit two three pointers in the last two minutes to counter the energy and grit of the Lady Bears.

Lol. Come come ladies, it wasnt pejorative. simply responding to the comments around Kim calling out or "blaming" her players. she does that a lot. we are what we are and i like our team. we have some real talent and will continue to gel. but KM gets a pass too often. everyone has weaknesses and her intensity can be one at times. thats all. doesnt mean I dont wish her to be our coach. i love having her and am glad she is on our sideline!

I understood where you were coming from. I wouldn't want anyone else coaching our ladies either. But facts are facts.....and I bet Kim would be the first to admit it but she isn't always perfect in how she coaches. I'm sure that she, from time to time, has wondered about her methods of coaching. BUT.....she's not out there on the court. The Lady Bears are and they have to live with their production.

They needed to lose this game. They didn't play well and needed a reminder of what happens when you don't play well. I guarantee you that they will carry that into the holidays and come out firing on all cylinders on Jan. 3.

Kalani and Lauren need to step it up, period. There's nothing wrong with saying it and I can bet you money they will come back after Christmas with a renewed focus.

Two words for Kalani: head fake.
