Anyone remember the 3rd base coach for Arizona State (Murphy) trying to fight one of our players (forgot his name)?

The next match-up, there were 2 baylor fans that were absolutely all over Murphy for the entire game. Just unrelenting.

The main thing I recall about Rice regionals is how consistently cursed we've been there. Never won a single one of them, plus we lost a super regional there after typically blowing a lead in the bottom of the 9th of the deciding game.

Smitty referred to Regionals at Rice as Wayne Graham Invitationals.

John Morris talked a little about that game during the game today. He said LaMotta threw 143 pitches in that game and got the W (3-2)
Murphy was arguing a call at 1st base from the 3rd base coaching box and walked across the mound (while LaMotta was on it) to get to 1st. LaMotta said something to him as he crossed the mound which started the dust up.

Was that the Zane Carlson (sp?) wild pitch to lose?

Interesting. Maybe I'll catch a Brewers game and call him "Mur" for short

Yep. We went to the bottom of the 9th of the deciding game that was going to send the winner to the CWS with a lead and one of our all time best closers (Carlson) on the mound. In addition to his wild pitch during an intentional walk that allowed a run to score, 3rd baseman Matthew Williams threw a double play ground ball into the outfield that was a huge error in the inning as well. It was so typical of the many post season collapses and choke jobs Smitty's teams had.
