I know a couple people that have gotten Phd's in this area of study and to me it seems like a money grab by the school they got their degree from. It just seems like a worthless degree so they can call themselves Dr. What are your opinions? Am I wrong?

Kids should look at the top professions in need and the top paying professions and pick something that is on both of those lists. They should ask themselves, will that profession be here in 25 years? We pretty much always need doctors, nurses, teachers, accountants, every construction industry trade..

We have severe understaffing in important carreers because kids keep getting these degrees in fields of study where they need one person for every 10+ kids that graduate with that degree.

Basically, Its a money grab by colleges selling worthless degrees.

It's one of the worst examples of credentialing. Or perceived credentialing.

The origin of the word doctor means to teach.. it has been used to award the highest level education since at least the 1300s.

The person you see when you are ill is a physician but is commonly referred to as a medical doctor. People in modern days think physicians are the real doctors and all the other academics are pretend doctors but academics have been doctors for a very long time.

Circling back to the OPs question, A useless degree is still a useless degree no matter what level of education it ranks.

The purveyors of that degree are not using good values-driven leadership.

Most probably generated student loans in the six figs to obtain the degree and can't figure out why they are unemployed. They also expect us to forgive them of their loans and for us to pick up the tab. Values Driven!

You say there are 10 graduates with only 1 needed... I have never heard of anyone hiring a "values driven leadership specialist".

Seems like there are 10 graduates with zero needed in cases like this one.

A few misconceptions on here. This is from the website of a school that offers this degree:
In each cohort, we build a supportive community of passionate, values-driven leaders who are actively working to have a transformative impact on business and society. Our primary target audience is senior business leaders with track records of success and a desire to lead profitable, sustainable, high-integrity companies with excellence. This includes CEOs, chief officers and their direct reports, presidents and vice presidents, and heads of business groups from a wide range of industries or the military. High-potential leaders at the director and senior manager levels (or equivalent) may also apply.

1. It doesn't sound like it's specifically designed to be a track for BA, MS, Doctor (although yes, I did find a few schools that have that path).
2. The bolded positions are generally people who make a lot of money and have (or should have) disposable income. Student debt shouldn't be an issue.
3. It doesn't seemed to be designed to be an academia type degree. My doctorate is specifically designed for academia although I could use it in the business world. This one however, seems to be specifically for people who run, or are near the very top, of corporations and looking to better understand how leadership can help them be more successful.

Whether that undermines those of us who hold doctorate degrees in other subjects is yet to be seen. I wouldn't recommend this to my high schooler, or any of the college students I teach, but I've had a few bosses who might have benefited from it.

I agree with you. The same can be said about majors like biology, and science, they are not that popular nowadays. Students prefer law and finance, but we have so many graduates each year, and there will be for sure a deficit of different specialists soon.

I study biology and I'm working on my dissertation already, and I have never regretted my choice. I heard that such a sphere is not profitable, and it's better to choose something else, but it's what I'm interested in. And yes, writing such a paper is very hard, but I've used some help from https://essays.edubirdie.com/write-my-dissertation because I was stuck with one part, and now the work is going great. And I'm sure that after graduation I'll be able to find a decent job because I have experience and knowledge. And with having a degree in leadership, I don't know what you can do. But I wish all the future graduates luck!

Academia is infested by naval gazing unemployables whose sole purpose in life is to apply their intellectual feces to societal fans.

Remember the old saying, "Those who can, do. Those who cannot, teach"?

Leadership has become more of an academic discipline in the last 20-30 years. Most people pursuing a PhD in it would probably looking at an academic career. Not all that different from a PhD in managementyou don't need that degree in the business world either but you do need it to teach.

Not sure I'd see the need for a doctorate in many areas if you want to work in the business world
