An ad hominem attack is a fallacy in reasoning where someone attacks the person making an argument instead of addressing the argument itself. It's also known as a personal attack fallacy or name-calling. Instead of focusing on the evidence or logic of a claim, an ad hominem attack tries to discredit the speaker by focusing on their character, motives, or irrelevant personal attributes.

You are decent people and know when you step over the line. This definition is just a reminder.

A false claim of an ad hominem attack occurs when someone incorrectly accuses another of making an ad hominem argument, even when the person's criticism is valid or relevant.. Accusations of ad hominem attacks are often used to deflect criticism or mischaracterize a valid point as "mean-spirited" or "personal".

" Red herring" is another one of Waco1947' s favorites.

He's still trying to cut down the largest tree in the forest with a herring.

I thought this "review of ad hominem attacks" was going to be lengthy list of occurences in the "Pope Leo" and "Heaven" threads. If anyone wants examples of pretty much the textbook definition, you'll find plenty there.

Waco1947 is very much against ad hominem; however, he is very much in favor of ad homo men - ads on tv or print media which validate and promote the lifestyle of gay men.

hominin - (n) the practice of an internet forum poster claiming to be a victim, usually without merit.

(see ad hominin, the practice of claiming victimhood in an attempt to gain emotional leverage)

This is another example of regressives trying to redefine terms using Newspeak and other Orwellian tactics. Just like they do not understand "fascism" and other big scary words, these double-digit-IQ tards do not know what actually is an ad hominem attack.

First, what it is not. An ad hominem attack is not not name calling. We have seen from numerous posts on these boards, that most - if not all - TDSers - are allergic to specifics. They love to say President Trump is HITLER and a THREAT TO DEMOCRACY, but if you ask them for examples they magically disappear. They're just not deploy facts and logic but rely on emotional hysteria to get the low-information crown inflamed.

Second, what is an ad hominem attack. This is when characteristics of the opponent is used to deny the argument rather than addressing it. So, using a current example, an ad hominem attack would be: "I do reject your argument because you are a Jew." Or, "I reject your argument because you're a white person."

As per the usual projection common among today's regressive fascists, they frequently deploy ad hominem attacks rather than addressing opponents' arguments. Waco47 is among the most frequent users of the ad hominem fallacy: not only does he regularly avoid specifics and direct rebuttal but also he frequently deploys statements like: "you're white, so you don't understand." That is the definition of ad hominem. Calling him a racist idiot is a fact not a fallacy.

A handy summary of terms:

ad hominem - to make an argument against the person rather than the topic

ad hominin - to make an argument on emotional grounds of victimhood, rather than on actual facts/evidence

ad hominomnomnom - to make an argument while hungry, so that an argument is influenced by food

ad Honda - to make an argument based on the ownership of a popular Japanese car brand by the poster

ad Homo Sapiens - to avoid a silly argument completely because the individual is smart enough to avoid a useless argument

ad homogenous - to make an argument based on a desire to be the same as everyone else

ad homilize - to make an argument through story-telling
