Anyway, I recently visited both of the museums discused in the report-the Smithsonian Museum of American History and National Portrait Gallery.

As to the portrait gallery, the report is ludicrous. The centerpiece of that museum is the portraits of the presidents. Those are presented without comment (unlike at the White House). It is as obective and a-political as can be.

The Musuem of American History is another story. As a huge fan of the Smithsonian system, I have to say this one museum is far below the Smithsonian's usual standards. It does give short shrift to the founders. It also gives short shrift to almost everything else; to put it simply, the musuem is a mess because it tries to do too much. There is also no coherent or extensive discussion or presentation of the civil war, WWI, WWII, Vietnam, Women's lib, gay rights, etc.

In place of traditional history, an unusally large bit of real estate in the building is given to entertainment in the country. Downstairs, to commemorate the 250th, there are 250 American stories, that have no rhyme or reason. My take on it is that it is not some left-wing plot. Instead, it is a museum trying too hard to be novel. It needs to be revamped, but not in the way Trump would have it.

It must be exhausting being this outraged all the time.

[A visitor to the Museum today will not find a single depiction of a Founding Father or other famous American symbol (e.g., Liberty Bell, Statue of Liberty, bald eagle, American flag) on any of the promotional boards surrounding the Museum building or on the covers of the current promotional materials provided to visitors inside the building (e.g., maps, guidebooks). Instead, NMAH's main design theme is white squiggly lines with red and blue backgrounds.]

I was at the museum less than two weeks ago. The statement is demonstrably false. As one example, the link below is a John Trumbull painting of Washington resigning his commission at the end of the war. It is gigantic and hangs over the staircase in the building. You literally cannot miss it, but apparently the commission did. (This one is a copy-the original is in the Capitol Rotunda).

I don't need to read the report because as with everything this administration does, says, or writes-it is unreliable. They take something that has some truth to it-see my original post-and exaggerate it out of proportion, ascribe ill motives, and try to divide us.

Or maybe the authors recognized that any public servant who voluntarily and gracefully relinquishes executive power, as Washington did twice and which Trump finds incomprehensible, is not an American ideal?

Believing anything they say at face value is dumb.
