Far worse is that was the retort by Cambridge and Academia in general.

Liberal professors and Admins all over the UK and the Anglo-sphere defended the idea that this guy could NOT be a fraud because to question him was to be "racist"

[The fact that the two most vocal critics of Arday harboured controversial views on race appeared to inform Cambridge's response, which was a robust defence of Arday.

The university called the claims a "vile smear campaign to undermine his credibility".

An open letter in support of Arday, signed by the Green party leader, Zack Polanski, and the prominent black studies academic Kehinde Andrews, argued there was "an orchestrated and grim effort to delegitimise a brilliant, young, working-class academic for the sin of being successful while Black".]

As it related to other threads and topics where "studies" and "research" and "experts" are cited one must remember this is today's Academy. It is not longer a world of academic rigor and merit but one of regressive agendas, identity politics, and idiocracy.

Sad if so.

But I don't think he should have been left alone. He deserved to be called out and lose his job. But he could have rebounded. Lots of people have lied on their resumes, been caught plagiarizing and still had successful careers.
