We really shouldn't be in the business of speculating about the eternal destination of people outside of what we know to be objective fact:
"Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit the kingdom of God."
1st Corinthians 6:9-10, combined with the Ten Commandments.
There is a God, and we're not Him.
You could just as easily make a case that following the great schism, Aquinas' attempt to synthesize Aristotle and Christianity and the rise of Roman Catholic scholasticism was responsible and this was several hundred years before the reformation.

You should not leave out verse 11, which provides important context:
" And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God."
If you want to be judged by your works, you choose a dangerous path. We all ought to focus on our own account, our own heart, and who we choose to be.
May our Lord Jesus Christ find us all safely and bring us home.
