Thoughts From My Voting Experience

My daughter and I went to vote today, and I noticed some interesting changes from past elections. I have been voting at primary and general elections for over a quarter-century at the same location, and there have always been clear trends at this location. My location in Southwest Harris County usually has about 3 women to every 2 men, with about 15% over 50 and a good turnout from young voters, generally about a third (33%) or so. The race makeup is usually about 45% White, 25% Black, 20% Hispanic and 10% Asian. Turnout is similar to most other places, with highest turnout on Presidential General Elections, then Primaries on Presidential Election years, then General Election and Primaries a bit down on Midterm years.

Today the line was huge; it took about two hours to get in and vote. It happens that I was able to see a lot of the people in line, as well as those leaving after they vote. The first thing I noticed was that the voters today were overwhelmingly white, about 80%, with Hispanics at about 10%, and Blacks/Asians making up the remainder at roughly equal amounts. I also noticed a lot of patriotic attire, no idea what to make of it but it was different from past elections. I also noticed that the over 50 voters made up about 55-60% of the voters, with the remainder basically split among the other age groups.

Now this is just one day at one place, but the difference between now and past elections was striking. Anyone else vote already, and if so what was your experience?

Congratulations on voting. I voted today. In and out in 10 minutes. I cancelled your vote!

I find it frustrating when people wait until 5:00 on election day and then have a hiccup. (and complain)

So what was your experience like, Mitch? You mentioned 10 minutes, so it sounds like a small turnout at your precinct. Did you notice the demographics by chance?

Thanks in advance.

I didn't pay attention at that level. My community (like yours) is extremely mixed, so I tend to find myself just navigating it.

It was quick. Yesterday was crazy from my understanding.

Voted for divided government.

Unfortunately our (R) on offer for governor basically has a criminal record and is corrupt.

Voted (L) for Governor

Voted (D) for State Executive Branch offices to keep the (R) governor in check in case he does win.

Voted to retain all judges so the new governor wouldn't have the opportunity to appoint any regardless of party affiliation.

Voted (R) for the State Assembly.

Voted (D) for the Federal House and Senate. Hopefully if we get enough (D)s in the Congress, Trump will get impeached and removed from office, replaced with Vance.

If they're busy fighting each other for power, they can't focus on screwing us over.

Turnout in this (R) district was low.

I'm definitely voting straight R for anything local... also definitely voting against the sorry Boomer Greg Abbott who turned Texas into little India and WEF exploitation zone... had a chance to confront my (R) Congresswoman today and ask her to stop voting to support the war, she doubled-down so she lost my vote today... will vote for Paxton despite my concerns over support for the war and data centers primarily bcs if he hadnt run Cornyn would still be in the Senate so I feel indebted to him... will 10,000% vote for Bo French for RRC

Biggest change this year is I wont be pestering (and even bribing) some of my family, neighbors, friends to vote like I did in 2020 & 2024... and I'll probably wait to vote until election day myself to make the R's sweat it out!

Sometimes I wonder what planet you live on... Republican Congress has also proven to be a threat against the American people. Two years of complete control and they 1) dont pass the SAVE act 2) remove and demote Greg Bovino, the most impressive person in the administration for doing his job too well and actually deporting people 3) start another never-ending war in the ME after promising voters no new wars 4) national debt surpasses $40 trillion 5) diesel is $10 a gallon in some states and inflation and interest rates have risen

Like I said, I plan to wait until election day.

I'm in Tarrant County so I'm supremely pissed that democrats probably take over the county and jack up property taxes because Trump the worthless idiots and cowards in Congress completely squandered a Republican majority.

The midterms were always going to be a challenge but they've made it almost impossible for all the local candidates here to succeed and we actually have some good candidates running for county and state offices that I am happy to support.

Go back to the opening post, note that it specifically asked about people's voting experience.

Fine if you want to wait, but you're missing the point to post about your opinions in a thread asking about the actual voting experience when you voted.

Voted yesterday (live in the suburbs of Austin).

Definitely was impressed and proud of my community for showing up. Usually early voting is pretty sparse, but it took me over an hour to get through.

Demographic wise it was a pretty good representation of my city. Lots of folks in all phases of life with different backgrounds.

They aren't.

All politicians are tools for the electorate to use.

DJT was a tool to hammer the left until he threw in the towel on immigration, no new wars, and Epstein.

Now the left becomes a tool to temporarily hammer DJT for his disobedience.

** sigh **

1. Not sure where you got the idea that Trump "threw in the towel on immigration". He's as strong as ever on border protection and kicking out illegals. Trump has never been against legal immigration, so that's a swing and a miss from you there;

2. The Iran War is hard to understand, but I think there are two aspects to consider. First, Iran was clearly doing something nuclear that Trump believed needed a response in force. What that exactly was and what would have been the best course, we may never know. Second, Trump has always been pro-Israel, on multiple levels, and I agree this allowed Netanyahu to manipulate him. Hopefully, going forward Trump will apply that lesson to his foreign policy, and there is some reason to believe he got the message;

3. Epstein is used by almost everyone bringing him up as a red herring. It's used by the Right to accuse the Left of all manner of disgusting behavior, and of course the Left does the same in reverse. Both the Biden and Trump Administrations have had access to everything about Epstein, yet neither used the files to go after major political targets, which makes pretty clear what the observant people have noticed from releases: What gets called the "Epstein files" is almost entirely media accounts and references to recognizable names - being "named" in the files has nothing to do with actual culpability.

Hope that helps you see my position.

About 25% of the illegal arrivals under Biden have been deported. 75% are still here. This doesn't even address the 30 million here before Biden. And Mullen has basically throttled back to "criminal illegals".

It isn't hard to understand at all. Despite his own DNI telling him that Iran wasn't developing a nuclear weapon, he went to war with Iran because Israel said to. The question is why. Adelson Money? Blackmail? Christian Zionists like Paula White whispering in his ear? It was a disastrous decision.

Maxwell is in prison. Epstein was in prison before his "suicide". Curious that all this activity is on the supply side, not the demand side.

I have significant problems with number 2. First, Iran is 100% the creation of Trump. It's his SNAFU. We had options that didn't include bombing. He killed the JCPOA. He hired Hegseth. He let Netanyahu talk him into the war.

And you know who I don't see involved? Israel.
