Riots sparked by the death of George Floyd have destroyed a $30 million affordable housing project in south Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The six-story, 190-unit apartment project known as Midtown Corner, which was set to provide housing for low-income families and individuals in the community, was torched and burned to the ground Wednesday night in a series of 16 structural fires set by protesters, Minneapolis Fire Chief John Fruetel reported in a press conference Thursday.

The housing complex, developed by Wellington Management, was scheduled to open in the spring of 2021. The total development cost was around $37 million, including contingency funds. The land and construction costs were approximately $30 million.

The project was funded almost entirely by private funds, with only $340,000 in public money being contributed.

Probably a wise move based on the looming mass exodus of law-abiding citizens from Minneapolis. An oversupply of formerly middle income housing will be converted into low income housing.

1968 all over again .

Rioters destroy their own communities then wonder why people and jobs leave the area.

Rioters destroy their own communities then wonder why people and jobs leave the area and then blame so-called "systematic racism" and demand taxpayers pay to return it to pre-riot conditions.

While there are definitely some similarities, in 1968 I don't recall riots happening on a nightly basis in any one city for two straight months. One big difference is unlike in 1968, today we have a major political party that clearly (and shamefully) feels it's in their best political interests to condone, embrace, and even encourage the continuation of the chaos and the violence for as long as possible. Dim mayors and governors are literally watching their inner cities get attacked, looted, burned and destroyed and for all intents and purposes cheering it on while minority communities in those cities suffer the most by far. It's incredibly unbelievable and I hope it backfires big-time in November.

Hopefully they have force majeure clauses in their contracts to avoid financial obligations, along with good insurance.

Either way, this becoming commonplace across America is not sustainable and too costly.

Excellent reminder .

True, in the 60's both parties confirmed the violence .

In 2020 the Dems support it ...or at the very least pretend it's not happening.
