Thoughts on 2018 QB situation; QB to watch at camp Sunday
To avoid rambling and getting into a long diatribe against the QB situation in Texas for the 2018 class, I'll say it in a short sentence and one that I've said a few times. The QB class in Texas for this cycle is extremely weak and is why none of the top three were actively pursued by the top programs in Texas outside of Baylor and Texas Tech. There are three that I would consider top 40ish players in Texas, but for the first time in a quite a while, there isn't a top 100 national talent at QB coming out of the state. If I had my pick of the three (Spencer Sanders, Jalen Mayden, Tanner Mordecai) I would probably go with Mordecai considering I believe he has the most natural presence and projection of the three. I worry about Sanders after not playing his junior season after an injury and I worry about Mayden being a lefty with a lot of room to grow as a passer with mismatched mechanics. Mordecai will be the one of the three that I believe will be the most consistent in the class when things are said and done. He is also a bit of an unknown considering he missed time early as a junior. He was wildly inconsistent at The Opening in Dallas as well when it came to accuracy. But I'm also no prophet and known to be wrong often. At the end of the day, the reality is that there is not a QB in Texas that Baylor could take that would change the direction of the program similar to the possibilities that a prospect like Jarrett Stidham brought to the table. There's no one realtively close. So by taking a prospect who is probably not going to see the field until their third year on campus, there is time for development. Because of that, especially when it looks as though missing on Mordecai is a real possibility, finding a plus athlete with natural tools is the way to go. If you can find one who completed 71% of his passes with 24 TDs and only 3 INTs, even better. That leads me to Henderson QB Trae Hall (6-3, 185). As a junior, Hall completed 118 of 167 passes (70.7%) for 1,894 yards with 24 touchdowns to only three interceptions. Hall added 749 yards rushing and six touchdowns on 80 attempts on the ground. He holds offers from Louisiana Lafayette, Florida Atlantic and Alcorn State. On film, which needs to be rearranged and extended, Hall shows ability to throw on the run, push the ball vertically with accuracy, and between the hashes. RPM is plus and won't be made ill by winds and shows his ability to spread it to the sideline with accuracy, velocity, and a quick release. While his athletic ability to extend passing plays is strong, his designed carries don't show breakaway speed, but with his size he's probably not going to need it. He won't be taken down with an arm tackle and that will only get better evident as he matures.Hall will camp with Baylor on Sunday and has been in contact with Baylor OC Jeff Nixon. Don't be surprised to see an offer extended with a solid showing.http://www.hudl.com/video/3/5311297/57d6d13f0aff7b858cb1f19f

National Average Rating

The National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a SicEm365 rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the SicEm365 Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide SicEm365 readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.
