Recruiting Roundup: Top 2019 prospects keeping tabs on Baylor
The SicEm365 Recruiting Roundup is a weekly piece which runs each Thursday at 1:00 p.m. to bring in the odds and ends of Baylor football recruiting trail as well as bring additional updates to the SicEm365 premium members.
A few Monday morning notes...
- Sounds like DE Joseph Ossai skipped out on both the Texas pool party on Saturday and the Texas A&M BBQ last night. I reported last week during his visit that Baylor made up a ton of ground and a couple of folks close to Ossai felt that Baylor might be the team to beat now. Not sure that this is confirmation of that, but it's definitely notable. - I mentioned it in another thread, but Florida CB Jermaine McMillian is expected to visit early in July. Another Florida prospect, OLB Ricky Williams also told me that he expects to make a trip to Waco in the same time period. I don't know if there is any correlation, but it looks as though a lot of out of state prospects are looking to make it in next month including Gerry Bohanon.- I'm 50/50 on LSU transfer Willie Allen landing at Baylor as of today. That's trending back positive after where I was to end last week. Again, it still sounds like it comes down to Baylor and UCLA. I was told recently by someone familiar with the situation that it is still Baylor. - Baylor's newest TE offer Christoph Henle measured at 235 pounds yesterday and ran a 4.8. The staff liked him before, but loved him after yesterday.
Ten for Ten to finish '18
Sitting at ten commitments for the 2018 class, we take a look at the top ten Baylor prospects who could come on board to fill out the remaining spots to take Baylor to 25 for the cycle.
Camp Observations (6/11)
The shirts were changed this week to 2018 Black, 2019 White, 2020 Green, and 2021+ Grey.Devontay Wheatley is huge. He's 6-5+ in bare feet and 255 now. Robinson tried him at 3T, 5T, and 7T and likes him at 3 and 5 more than 7. He has 3 years to play 3 after this season at TJC. He does not have an offer, but one could come this week. He'll play inside if he is a Bear. Bralen Taylor is likely the tallest skill player in the country. I'm not sure how anyone will stop him on a lob pass at any time. The defender will have to interfere with him.Korie Black was there and was pulled aside for individual work with Fran Brown. He's going to be great and his father, Keith, and I caught up on old times about our HS. Keith played at KSU, but it doesn't seem like he'll push Korie there or anywhere.Trent Pullen is the son of a former teammate's cousin and is a large 2020. Not sure what happens with him, but he and Black could end up at the same school.Kevin Doyle is legit. Just offer him and get it done.Fran Brown is great to watch work. Phil Snow is all over the place in camp and I haven't seen him on a golf cart yet.George DeLeone is great. He's noticing who is at each camp in the crowd (us) and works the crowd a bit. He is one that is a perfectionist in technique and demands it from his players. We didn't know what to expect from the staff, but they're great all around.Texas has so many athletes and I think this staff is seeing how many and they're invigorated by it. All are teachers in their coaching style and the camps show this aspect.I didn't watch LBs much and meant to do so. Coach Siravo is a big voice in the Allison and when Colt checks the Nixon tape he will likely hear Siravo in the background.Coach Robinson is looking to get the most out of every rep. He pushes all the players at the same level. It was great to get out there with Amy, Damon, and Colt. This is hard work, but those three make it more fun for me and I tell them, but want y'all to know as well.MJ Rivers looked good and then would look meh. Same for Trae Hall. A big 2018 OT from Whitehouse showed some promise, but likely not going to get an offer.Casey Phillips and Jackson Kimble were inseparable at the camp and recruited Joseph Ossai the entire day. Not sure they left his side. There was a big 2019 TE from Clear Lake there and he was impressive.
A few quick hitters
- Baylor has made up some serious ground on Joseph Ossai. Today was a major opportunity for Baylor to make up ground and they did. Texas, A&M, Alabama are three others in this one to round out his top four. - I'm expecting Baylor to offer D.C. QB Kevin Doyle. He was extremely impressive. If he lands at Baylor it's a big pickup. - I see Baylor offering the TJC DE Wheatley. Unique situation for a kid trying to make something of himself. Will be a 3/3 guy who graduates next May. He is a specimen and ready to go right now. - JT Woods and Mark Milton were attached at the hip. So long and so much speed. - Vernon Jackson is KJ Smith physically right now. He's been on campus the last two weekends.
