Camp Observations (7/22)
Got up, got a shower, drank some water, got in the car, headed to WacoDrank a water and another drink in the car on the way downGot to McLane at noon and I was a Championship LevelStart seeing the players come in and come in and then I'm told 366 pre-registerstedThen I see 100+ walk ups and the final count if over 500RBs, TEs, and DBs go to the Indoor and we let themOL/DL heads to TD Alley, we followIt's hot, water downedQualan Jones goes 4.41 in the 40Joshua Landry is killing it. An OL rips his shirt off holding him. Josh finishes it Hulk Hogan style and throws it away. Goes back against the guy and whips him again.Jayden Jernigan is having a great day at DT and Elijah Robinson pulls him aside to ask him who he is and why he hasn't seen him before. Jernigan was injured in the Spring and coaches didn't see him.Josh Brown of Alief Taylor is listed at 6-4 250, but he looks a little heavier and his game is legit. Quick feet, strong punch, sets his base, and moves well. The coaches pull him aside and tell him to meet after camp. The OL/DL break for water and film session Water number #3 as we walk back to the stadiumThe heat has hit this side of an offset smoker pumping into your garageWater # 4The kids come back and we stay with QB/WR/DB in the stadiumDamon has to leave I am jealous of him getting in an air conditioned carDylan Jantz burns a kid more than Fire Marshall BillDylan Jantz burns another kid hard enough I don't think anyone else wants to attempt to cover himOh... someone does think it, but they can't and Jantz is in the end zone againElijah Higgins goes up on a DB and snags the ball out of the airHiggins gets an offer after campCamp ends, Amy interviews Delarrin Turner-Yell, Jantz, Jayden Jernigan, Jonathan McGill and Qualan JonesGet in the car, down water #5, Red Bull #1 and beef jerky Stop at grocery store and get cheeses and meatsGet home, eat cheeses and meatsStick on Keto DietDrink more water and start to upload video interviewsDid I say it was hot?During this Ashley confirmed one of the coaches for 7/29 for 30 minutes of badassery.

Random ranking notes
I try to get the offers and rankings of the Baylor commits updated every week. As I was going through today, I noticed there were several Baylor commits who did not have their 247 Composite scores fully loaded. Below is what their Composite score is currently and what it should be with their final rankings added. JT Woods 85.67 current; 84.6 updatedChristian Morgan 84.96 current; 85.8 updatedJoshua Landry 84.62 current; 87.1 updatedDelarrin Turner-Yell 84.3 current; lacks ESPN rankingJackson Gleeson 84.22 current; 84.4 updatedMark Milton 83.55 current; 84.1 updatedThis does not include some of the prospects who have all four of their rankings assigned that have not been updated.

Monday Morning Thoughts: Be as big and fast possible
Football recruiting at Baylor is interesting. Until the Bears claim their first national championship or, heck, even a spot in the playoffs, they will be viewed as a program that's on the rise but not at the top just yet. The Texas Longhorns and Oklahoma Sooners bring their historic success to the table in every battle while Texas A&M brings the allure of the SEC in Texas and playing in front of 100,000-plus fans at every home game.Art Briles battled trying to climb the pecking order even after winning two Big 12 Championships and narrowly missing a shot at the championship twice. He beat Texas and Oklahoma consistently and produced three-straight 10-win seasons while Texas A&M set at an average of 8-5. But one thing was likely never going to change with Art Briles... he was always looking for that piece to the puzzle that no one else had. He found prospects on the recruiting trail who contributed to his two Big 12 Championships that no one else wanted. His final class, one that was ripped to shreds in the weeks following his firing, was the highest ranked class he had ever signed at No. 17 in the country, and he was still putting in pieces that he saw as great fits for his offense that not everyone saw as being a priority... such as Denzel Mims and Jared Atkinson. Two Big 12 Championships in, the lag year that is common in recruiting is over, and Baylor finally saw their first top 20 class. That sets the table of reality for Baylor football recruiting. You have to be unique until you don't have to be.Fast forward to May of 2017 and Matt Rhule's staff understands that. Along with competing directly with Oklahoma State, TCU, Texas Tech and occasionally some B1G, PAC 12 and SEC schools, the Bears have to find their niche on the trail. Well, let me back track and say they have.To be as big and as fast as possible. I understand that it's been said on here several times, but that's exactly what this is all about. The reality is that the best players in the country are the biggest and the fastest. You don't beat Alabama (don't take this so literal) by being Oregon. You beat Alabama by being as big and as fast and as physical as Alabama. Will Matt Rhule be able to develop the size and speed his is accumalating? That's the biggest unknown. Yes, he did it at Temple on occasion, but mixing in raw size and raw speed with high-end talent is also crucial. Baylor's 2018 class is a mixed bag. Josh Fleeks and Jackson Gleeson are on opposite ends of the spectrum of ready-to-play ability, but the upside might be equal for both. Casey Phillips and Ylijaah Hall are prospects both held in high regard by the George DeLeone, but Phillips is obviously viewed as the most ready. Delarrin Turner-Yell vs. Mark Milton? Similar situation. Briles found a niche on offense recruiting guys like Kendall Wright, Terrance Williams, Tevin Reese and Antwan Goodley. The production of those players translated into the signing of KD Cannon, Devin Duvernay and Tren Dickson. Now, with a similar niche approach by Rhule on both sides of the ball, can development (mixed with a good share of natural ability) be enough to take recruiting to the next level?

DTY currently sits at an 86 and that boils down to everything you see on tape. If he’s not at the LOS to start the play, you can bet he is going to be there soon and with authority. I’d like to see more film from the playmaker in-coverage on film, but given the playing style from most smaller schools, it’s tough to expect him to show it too often.

National Average Rating

The National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a SicEm365 rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the SicEm365 Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide SicEm365 readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Baylor and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Baylor and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
