Baylor VB Sends Five to the USA Volleyball Women’s National Team Open Program
WACO, Texas – Baylor volleyball has five student-athletes headed to Colorado Springs, Colo., for the weekend to participate in the USA Volleyball Women’s National Team Open Program.
Senior Kara McGhee, sophomores Lauren Briseño, Elise McGhee and Riley Simpson, as well as freshman Allie Sczech, will be participating from the Bears.
The Open Program, formerly known as the Open Tryout, is a segment of the selection process for the U.S. Women’s National Team and the NCAA Elite Athlete list, as well as the 2022 Collegiate National Team.
The WNTOP will take place from February 25-27 at the U.S. Olympic & Paralympic Training Center, with more than 200 women’s volleyball players expected to participate.
U.S. Women’s Head Coach Karch Kiraly and the National Team staff, along with coaches from around the country, will be a part of skill-specific activities and match play throughout the Open Program.
The Open Program is available to current and recent graduates of collegiate age, born from 1997-2003.
Kara McGhee will be documenting her time over the weekend in Colorado Springs and will report back on her experience, to be shared on BaylorBears.com.
“I can’t wait to share this open tryout experience with you guys,” said McGhee. “This opportunity to learn from some of the best coaches and play alongside talented opponents from other teams is one I could not pass up. Follow along as five Baylor Bears take on the Colorado cold.”
