Baylor Takes Series Opener against Columbia, 3-0

WACO, Texas – Baylor baseball (8-5) secured the win in game one of the Saturday doubleheader against Columbia (3-5). 

Tyler Thomas was on the mound today for his fourth start of the season. Coming off of his fantastic outing against UCLA in the Shriners Classic, it would be hard for anyone to maintain that level of dominance, but Tyler Thomas continued it today.

To be honest, I am running out of adjectives and synonyms to describe Tyler Thomas, he is one of one, just special. Thomas finished with 8 IP, 3H, 0 ER, and 7 Ks. His ERA has now dropped to 0.94 on the season, giving up 3 ER in 27.2 IP (two of those runs came in the first inning in his first outing of the season). 

As for the offense, Baylor got on the board early in the first game of the Saturday doubleheader.

With the bases loaded in the bottom of the first, Antonio Valdez hit a sharp liner into a fielder’s choice bringing in Jack Pineda for the first run of the day. Chase Wehsener continued his great week with a lined shot into right field scoring Tre Richardson, 2-0 Baylor. 

With two outs in the bottom of the third, Wehsener singled up the middle bringing home Kyle Nevin, adding onto the Baylor lead 3-0. Wehsener has accounted for 6RBIs during his four-game hitting streak.

The Bears ended the afternoon with nine hits. Kyle Nevin and Wehsener both had multi-hit games. 

The ninth inning got a little rocky after Mason Marriott gave up two singles, but was able to complete the save after a smooth double play by Tre Richardson and  Jack Pineda ended the game.
