Game number one is in the books and the Bears are now 1-0. In a game where the opponent was overmatched, Baylor dominated on both sides of the ball.
These are the top ten things that stood out to me during Baylor’s game against Albany:
- So great to see the passing game pick up in the first game of the season. The question of deep speed and Blake Shapen being able to hit Monaray Baldwin deep should ease Baylor fans minds and scare some opponents.
- SQWIRL!!!! He’s back, he’s the same speed and ready for the season.
- Gavin Holmes being a game changer in the punt return is a huge addition to the team. Holmes is returning from several injuries and production wasn’t expected from many fans. The WR room is deep if Holmes remains injury free.
- OL missed three blocks on the 4th and 1 inside Baylor territory. This led to an Albany touchdown pass on the Baylor secondary after the end of the first quarter.
- The wide receiver room is incredibly deep as Hal Presley takes the top off of the defense. The former four star receiver has been dinged up in his short career and if he stays healthy he will top 1000 yards.
- Baylor has come out in the second half firing off in the run game to prove a point with Qualan Jones, Richard Reese, Craig Williams and Monaray Baldwin keeping the ball on the ground for six plays in a row. The offensive line needed to improve and did after some halftime adjustments with Blake Shapen getting hit a few too many times.
- It’s 42-7 and time to get the backups experience and stay healthy. Matt Jones limps off after making a great tackle downfield.
- Kyron Drones with a nice drive to put the Bears up 49-7. He had some nice throws and made a great decision to tuck the ball and take it into the end zone.
- The tailgate today was great. That’s what we’re talking about at this point with several Albany players going down with cramps.
- Get off the field healthy in the fourth quarter with backups gaining experience. Tevin Williams and Devyn Bobby look great in the secondary.
Baylor looks to have plenty of tape for the team to study and improve upon for the matchup in Provo against BYU next Saturday.
