WACO, Texas – Baylor’s Adrian Boitan has been nominated to the Romanian team at the Davis Cup, as announced by the team captain this week.

Boitan last competed in the Davis Cup this March, with a 6-3, 6-1 loss against Spain’s Roberto Bautista Agut. In November 2021, he took down Peru’s Jorge Brian Panta, 6-4 6-4, in the World Group Playoff en route to a Romanian 4-0 sweep over the Peruvians.

Romania will play the Slovakian national team in Bratislava, Slovakia, on Sept. 16-17 at the NTC Arena in the World Group 1 First Round. In the current ratings, Romania is ranked 30th with 251.5 points, and Slovakia is ranked 27th.

The Romanian team is comprised of nominations made by the team captain, Gabriel Trifu, which includes Nicholas David Ionel, Marius Copil, Cezar Cretu, Victor Vlad Cornea and Boitan.

Ties in World Group I will consist of five matches played over two days, with two singles played on day one and two reverse singles on day two, followed by the doubles match. All matches are the best-of-three tiebreak sets.

Boitan joins former Baylor teammate Matias Soto, who is playing for Team Chile, in the World Group I first round. John Peers (Australia) and Jimmy Bendeck (Honduras) have also competed in the Davis Cup.
