IRVING, Texas – Baylor football sixth-year senior linebacker Bryson Jackson has been named the Big 12 Co-Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the conference on Monday.

Jackson stood out defensively for the Bears as part of their 31-24 win at Iowa State on Saturday, helping BU to hold yet another opponent to 30 or fewer points for the 18th consecutive game, dating back to the 2020 season. Jackson racked up two sacks as part of his four-tackle day, all of which were solo. Those two TFL’s resulted in a loss of seven total yards.

Additionally, Jackson was credited with a QB hurry, further exemplifying his ability to rush the quarterback and impact the game while playing mostly on strictly passing downs. His two sacks tied a career high, previously set in the 2022 Sugar Bowl, and his four tackles, all being solo, also matched a career best.

After his performance against the Cyclones, Jackson now leads the team in sacks in 2022. He is one of seven different BU players to record at least 1.0 sacks so far this season, a mark which is tied for 14th in the nation, and one of 10 different Bears with at least 0.5 sacks this year.

This is Baylor’s second conference honor of the 2022 season, following Richard Reese’s Big 12 Newcomer of the Week accolade on Sept. 19. Jackson becomes the 24th different Bear all-time to pick up Big 12 defensive honors for a total of 33 times. BU has had a Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week honoree in 18 of the last 19 seasons, with nine honors earned in the last four years.

Jackson shares this week’s defensive praise with Reggie Pearson of Texas Tech, while Adrian Martinez (Offensive) and Kobe Savage (Newcomer) of Kansas State and Tech’s Trey Wolff (Special Teams) were also recognized by the league.
