Baylor Baseball Blown-Out by Duke in Saturday Contest, 22-3
DURHAM, N.C. – For the second consecutive game, Baylor Baseball (2-4) was blown out by Duke (4-2), this time by a score of 22-3.
Through two games this weekend, the Bears’ pitching staff has combined to surrender 42 runs, 36 hits and 19 walks in 16 innings pitched.
Junior Cam Caley started on the mound Saturday and could not make it past the third inning, allowing four earned runs, five hits and three walks on 67 pitches. Through two starts, Caley’s ERA currently sits at 11.57.
The Bears’ offense got out to a quick start and added runs in the top of the first and third innings.
In the first, junior Kobe Andrade hit an RBI triple into the right-centerfield gap. And in the third, freshman Kolby Branch scored on a groundout from junior Hunter Simmons.
Despite a 2-0 Baylor lead through two and a half innings, Duke scored four runs in the bottom of the third.
Junior Andrew Petrowski pitched in relief of Caley and allowed five runs in 2.1 innings pitched. However, only one run was earned after sophomore shortstop Austin Stracener sailed a throw to first to start the fifth.
Junior RHP Adam Muirhead faced five batters, walked three, and allowed one hit and one run.
To make matters worse, the Blue Devils added nine runs in the bottom of the eighth inning on only three hits.
Grant Golomb allowed two earned runs, hit two batters and walked one. Brett Garcia allowed five earned runs, hit two batters and walked three. Cole Tremain allowed two earned runs and walked one.
The Bears' offense finished with eight hits on the evening and scored three runs.
