Baylor Equestrian Earns Berth to Nationals as No. 8 Seed
WACO, Texas – Baylor equestrian has earned the No. 8 seed for the upcoming 2023 National Collegiate Equestrian Association (NCEA) National Championship, as announced Tuesday by the organization.
This year’s national event is set for April 13-15 at the World Equestrian Center in Ocala, Fla.
The Bears will face No. 1 SMU in the quarterfinals on Thursday, April 13, at 7:30 a.m. CT as part of the single-elimination dual-discipline team bracket. The Mustangs claimed both of this year’s contests over BU, with a 13-6 win in Dallas on Nov. 4 and a 10-8 victory in Waco on March 2.
Baylor has advanced to the postseason each year since the program’s inception in 2005-06. Last year, the Bears were eliminated in the first round after falling 13-6 to No. 3 Texas A&M. The last time the Bears were the 8-seed, they knocked off No. 1 Auburn in the 2021 quarters and advanced to the NCEA semifinals for the first time under sixth-year head coach Casie Maxwell.
BU finished the 2022-23 campaign at 6-9 overall and earned the No. 4 seed to the Big 12 Championship, where the Bears placed third after defeating Fresno State in the consolation meet, 16-4.
