It was great to sit down with Richard Reese and discuss what he is looking forward to this season and the expectations Baylor wants to set.

Recap:

In this interview, Faith Lynch sits down with Richard Reese, the star running back for Baylor University's football team. Richard had an exceptional freshman season, earning several accolades, including the 2022 Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year. Faith starts by asking Richard about his summer in Waco, Texas, where he mentions the hot weather and their current schedule of weights and practice.

They discuss Richard's experience working with Baylor's new RBs coach, AJ Steward, since January. Richard speaks highly of Coach Steward's coaching style, emphasizing the attention to detail and the importance of the little things. He mentions how Coach Steward has helped him improve his game, particularly in areas like pass protection.

Faith inquires about Richard's personal preparations for the upcoming season. He mentions putting in extra work, including additional drills and workouts beyond the team's regular schedule. Richard also highlights the importance of training with his teammate, Jacoby Clarke, who pushes him to work harder.

The conversation shifts to Richard's introduction to football and his upbringing. He shares that he started playing at the age of six and talks about the influence of his parents, particularly his mother. Richard also discusses his involvement in other sports growing up, such as soccer, basketball, and track, but ultimately focused on football and track during his high school years.

The interview touches on Richard's recruitment process, with Baylor being an early favorite. He shares his excitement when Baylor offered him a scholarship and how that impacted his decision. Richard explains that the way Baylor does things felt like home to him, and he wanted to be part of a program that emphasized doing things the right way.

Faith and Richard discuss the importance of the "person over player" philosophy at Baylor, where Richard explains that it means being yourself while helping and supporting others. He expresses his desire to live by that principle, understanding the impact he can have on his teammates and those who look up to him.

The conversation then delves into topics such as Richard's routine for watching film, the team's chemistry, his involvement in a church band while growing up, and his experience with the Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) opportunities.

Faith also asks Richard questions from fans, including how he transitioned from high school to college football and how the team's mindset has changed from the previous season. Richard discusses the challenges of the transition and the team's focus on working together this year to avoid the same struggles they faced before.

The interview concludes with Richard expressing his excitement for the upcoming season and his eagerness to see the contributions of the young players on the team. He shares his love for sports, emphasizing how it has been a significant part of his life since he was young, providing an escape and an incredible experience on the field.
