As part of this new series – Set It In Stone – I will be proffering a handful of opinions from this angle:

  1. I feel very confident in them
  2. I want people to be able to look back at this series after this Fall and either ridicule or applaud my takes
  3. They’re somewhat controversial.

Looking forward to more posts in this series, Travis. Should be a fun one.

I'd tend to agree regarding Grimes, Mateos, and the running game. Utah will be a good early season test to see how well the line is gelling before we enter conference play.

My biggest offensive concerns are at QB and WR, but between Shapen and Sawyer I expect we'll get good (college) QB play by the end of the year. How quickly the coaching staff settles on the optimal QB may sway some early season games, though. WR should be improved from last year, but the question is how reliable / efficient they can be and if the top of the room can stay healthy for a full season.

Something I was curious about in the article:
Quote:

Baylor's scheme under Jeff Grimes, for example, is designed almost explicitly with defeating [3-safety] defenses like those.
Could you elaborate on how the Grimes offense attacks these structures?

I'll be impressed if they can figure out how to stop running sweeps to the short side of the field.

I want him to get better. But on a scale from 1- 10 with 1 being awful and 10 being amazing (lke Duggan last) I have never seen a player go from a 2 or maybe a 3 like Shapen was last year to more than a 6. That means a middle of the road season unless Richard Reese is a Heisman candidate.

I will be watching to see if the BU offense is any good.

Baylor certainly has the players to have a top 20 O. In 2021, Baylor ranked 40th. In 2022, Baylor ranked 45th. Since the O scheme will stay the same, I guess it's up to better QB play. I really believe Blake will be improved. Literally, 3 plays kept Baylor from going 9-3 in 2022.
