After a promising first two seasons under Jeff Grimes, Baylor’s offense cratered in 2023. In this three-part series, we will look back on Baylor’s 2023 offense: what went right, what went wrong, and what can be built upon in 2024. In part one, we’ll look at Baylor’s run game; In part two we’ll look at the passing game; and In part three we’ll look at some offensive players I’m excited about building around in 2024.

Lack of talent and coaching. Dave recruiting less talented players. Never remember remember a Baylor offensive line looking this uncoached. The buck stops with Dave. Doubtful he can put out the dumpster fire he has created.Linda and Mack are also responsible as are the BOR.

Most effective running back on the roster being scuttled for person over player? Perhaps?

The same exact O line blocked for 5 different rushers (3 backs, QB and Ketron) against the same defenders last game and G'head and try to say Reese wasn't far and away the best option.

That's what was wrong with our run game. We played our 2 and 3 and we sat our 1 the majority of the season.

We started a bunch talented seniors the year we won the Big 12, and most of them came back for a 5th year. When they ran out of eligibility we were left with a bunch of young inexperienced undeveloped OL. That's what happened this year.

Yep. Our season was doomed from the start because we broke camp with an overmatched line. You can't scheme around an incompetent offensive line.

I'm not sure we need a whole article on why our running game wasn't any good this year.

One thing that should be talked about is a lack of a true running threat at quarterback. We had a quarterback that scared people in the run game in Bohannon. Shapen and Robertson got away from that mold and simply aren't as physically imposing. In 2021, we seemed to run more RPOs and Speed options which added a wrinkle to the run game that kept defenses on their toes.
