WACO, Texas – The No. 13 Baylor women’s basketball team returns home to host the Oregon Ducks on Sunday.

The game has been tabbed Baylor’s annual ‘Holiday Hoops’ contest and tip-off is set for 1 p.m. at the Ferrell Center.

The game is available nationally on FS1. Live in-game updates will be provided via Twitter and live stats.

STARTING FIVE

Baylor has scored 80-plus in all six of its contests to start the year for just the fourth time in program history. The last time it accomplished this feat was during the 1977-78 campaign. It’s the first time since the 1975-76 season that all six games were wins by the Bears.

The Bears finished the month of November a perfect 6-0. It’s the first time since 2018-19 that Baylor went undefeated in the opening month of competition and just the ninth time since the turn of the century that the Bears have done so.

For the third-straight year under the direction of Nicki Collen, the Bears earned the win in their first true road game of the season, taking down SMU in Dallas on Thursday, 85-61. The 24-point victory marked the fourth 20-plus point win of the year for Baylor.

In each of the Bears’ six wins, Baylor has had a different leading scorer each contest. Sophomore Darianna Littlepage-Buggs led the way for the Bears at SMU, turning in her first double-double of the season with 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Sunday’s game will be the second-straight nationally-televised game for the Bears. Baylor will be featured on eight total national broadcasts this year and are 8-6 in nationally televised games over the last three seasons.

SCOUTING THE DUCKS AND THE SERIES

Oregon enters Sunday’s contest with a 4-2 ledger, dropping two of its last three. Baylor is 4-0 all-time against the Ducks, last meeting in the national semifinals in 2019. The Bears used a 72-67 win to advance to the national title game before eventually winning its third national championship.

This will be the third time in five meetings between the two programs that the game is featured on a national broadcast. The Ducks have advanced to the postseason every year since 2015-16, with five trips to the NCAA Tournament in the seven-year span. Oregon’s Grace VanSlooten is averaging a team-leading 16.3 points and 10.5 rebounds per game while three other Ducks are averaging double figures on the floor.

PROMOTIONS

Fans are encouraged to come in their best ugly Christmas sweater and to bring a teddy bear for the annual halftime Care Bear Toss, presented by Smile Doctors. Any fan that brings a stuffed animal for the toss will receive one entry per stuffed toy for a chance to win a free pair of Nike Dunks by visiting the marketing table on the concourse.

All Care Bears will be donated to Baylor Scott & White's McLane Children's Hospital. Families will also be able to find Santa on the concourse and can take photos with him through the first half.

Bears up 21-12 at the end of 1st quarter.

Walker missing a lot of close shots but her defense has been too good to take her out. Edwards has been great running the floor and putting up quick points.

Felder just made a shot over Oregon's 6'8 player in the paint

Am I right that Oregon's Sammie Wagner committed to Baylor as a HS freshman, but decommiited when Kim left for Baton Rouge?

Correct. I thought at one point she was also committed to Texas but could be wrong there.

Team is playing great pace and hustle.

Great job coach and players.

Great rotations too.

Listening on radio. Sounds like great energy in The Ferrell, and BU is outhustling the Ducks.

This isn't exactly the Ionescu/Sabally/Hebard level of talent we took down in 2019. Their height and zone D take a little adjusting to, but they are fairly slow and can't hit the broadside of a barn.

Went to SMU game and watching this .

We move ball better than any women's team I've seen ..and a few guys teams.

Too much passing. At the end of first half and now in the second, they pass up so open shots including some from three.

At least we still have a good lead, mainly because we are so much better than Oregon.

We are so much better than last year. Fundamentally better in all aspects.

Agreed. Great talent and great depth, like MBB. And with both teams, the improvement of returning players is noticeable.

LPB is so quick and athletic

We are dissecting their zone

Baylor is rebounding very well today. That, and the great defense, helps to explain the huge lead.

The sloppiness in general play and confusion and stagnation on offense is gone. Our transition game is much improved

Everyone has played except the 2 blondes. I guess due to either Oregon size or zone

71-51 final score

I was hoping we would get to a 20 point lead and we finally did late.

Yes ...after decommiting from BU, she committed to Texas, and decommited again for OR.

Their big girl woke up second half, had problems with her. Hoping to get Kyla and Lety in for some height.

The heck with Sammie. I'd rather have Bella and Buggs any day.

Remarkable that we outrebounded them 44-28, although we gave away so much size. They had 4 players with more size than anybody in our primary rotation; Van Slooten (6'3"), Kyei, (6'8"), Basham (6'7") and Rambus (6'3"), and they nearly always had 2 of them on the floor at all times. Still, we were not dominated on the boards. The only time it really showed were on Oregon possessions when they got the ball to Kyei on the low post, and she was able to pivot into a bunny.

One could argue that we're shaping into a team with a primary rotation of 7, and then multiple role players who play depending on the matchup. In that 7, it's Edwards, Blackwell, Buggs, and Fontleroy who provide most of the size and rebounding, and none is taller than 6'1". We'll always be exposed to a really talented low post player, and it may be the eventual doom of this team come March. However, it's been remarkable so far to see those four players get after it on the boards and on defense.

Also very impressed with how they've worked to exploit the matchup advantages they do have as smaller bigs, in rim running on the break, stretching the floor to pull the bigs out of the paint, using dribble drives, and using quickness to deflect in passing lanes.

I understand many fans are fascinated with Lety and Kyla and their size, and want to see more of them. I'm happy that both are on the roster, and hopfeul they'll develop into beasts, but the fact is they're just not yet ready to compete against elite bigs on Top 20 teams. Dre and Aijha and Darianna give us much more competitive production, even if undersized, and that's the identity of this team this year.

Bella is the new Bickle. Takes a charge like a champ. She has developed into a great defensive player.

First time I've ever made two ladies' games in a row.

Went to the SMU game, which was really fun. We Baylor fans outnumbered them 3-2 easily. Haven't been in Moody since one of my daughters graduated there. But it's a nice place to watch a game.

Then went yesterday with my sister. Great game. I wanted to win by 20, and got my wish. Oregon has some BIG girls. But our athleticism won out. We seem to be firing on all cylinders. Every game I've seen we seem to get a little better, a little more in sync. I feel really good about this team.

Tip of the hat to Bruingirl. Nice to meet you.

Did you notice in the box score a flop warning was issued to Baylor. I did not catch that during the broadcast and the announcers did not report it as they were always chattering about nongame related stuff. For a while there I thought I was listening to date night banter.
