Bears Scream Past Hornets 99-37 in Final Ferrell Center Game
With six Bears scoring in double figures, it was easy to harass the Hornets. Aijha Blackwell and Bella Fontleroy led the Bears in scoring, both posting 14 points. Sarah Andrews wasn’t far behind with 12 points of her own, then Jana Van Gytenbeek, Madison Bartley and Yaya Felder each posted 10. Van Gytenbeek crossed into double figures after nailing a three with just 34 seconds remaining in the game.
Blackwell and Fontleroy also led the Bears off the boards, with each of them posting 11 rebounds to notch double-doubles; this marked Blackwell’s second of the season and Fontleroy’s first. Dre’Una Edwards and Darianna Littlepage-Buggs also had double-figure rebounds, each posting 10. Altogether, the Bears outrebounded the Hornets 65-26, with Baylor matching Delaware’s total rebounds with only their offensive total (26).
The Bear’s unselfishness continues to shine, with Van Gytenbeek having the same amount of assists as the entire Delaware State team. Van Gytenbeek posted eight of the Bear’s 25 assists, with DSU posting eight assists in total. Being sure only to share the ball with fellow Bears, BU posted 16 steals, led by Andrews with five; another instance of a Bear matching the stat line of the opposing team, DSU had five steals, led by Savannah Brooks with three.
