Baylor Baseball: Mazoch, Wilkerson Enter Transfer Portal
Designated hitter Zach Mazoch (So.) and left-handed pitcher Jackson Wilkerson (Fr.) have entered their names into the transfer portal, according to their Twitter/X pages.
Mazoch saw playing time across 30 games this spring for the Bears and notched a .299 batting average and a .409 on-base percentage. Across 77 at-bats, he collected five extra-base hits and 17 RBIs. In conference play, Mazoch hit .302 with a .415 slugging percentage across 13 starts.
With the return of redshirt senior outfielder Hunter Simmons to the lineup next season, Simmons and rising senior outfielder Wesley Jordan will likely split most of the reps between left field and designated hitter. On paper, Mazoch’s path to routine playing time would have been to either beat out rising senior catcher Cortlan Castle and rising sophomore Brayden Buchanan behind the plate or make a full-time position switch to first base.
On the mound, Wilkerson had a promising fall but struggled with injuries during the spring and saw the least amount of time of any pitcher on the team. He made three appearances, allowing four earned runs in 1.2 innings of work.
