In The Web: What 'They' are Saying About Baylor in Week 10

Baylor has established some momentum over the past two weeks, putting together its best stretch of consistent football in as many years. The Bears have found an offensive identity that works for this roster and are beginning to capitalize in all three phases of the game.

The Big 12 is definitely on notice right now, but Baylor’s recent success isn’t garnering much interest from outside of those who regularly pay attention to the conference. One media and data outlet that consistently reports on the Big 12 is the Kelley Ford Rankings, which has Baylor working its way up the conference rankings.

Baylor has also climbed out of the doldrums of ESPN’s SP+ Rankings, which Bill Connally puts out weekly. Now, the Bears sit at 47th nationally, clumped behind Kansas (45) and Cincinnati (46). The Bears remain on track to clinch a bowl berth, with Brett McMurphy of Action Network HQ still projecting Baylor to Face Iowa in the Rate Bowl.

Last week’s 38-28 win over Oklahoma State was once again led by quarterback Sawyer Robertson (RJr), who continues to improve week by week. Robertson has looked like the best quarterback to wear the Green and Gold for almost a decade, and the numbers and respect continue to back that up.

Robertson’s success wouldn’t be possible without those around him finally stepping up and matching his play. Defensively, linebacker Matt Jones (6Sr.) answered the call against the Pokes with 12 total tackles, a career-high 10 solo tackles, three tackles for loss, one forced fumble and a sack, earning him defensive player of the week honors.

Heading into week 10, Baylor will look to slay another demon that has haunted them for quite some time in arch-rival TCU. The Frogs have dominated the series with Baylor over the past decade, including winning four straight in the rivalry.

There will be a ton of emotions in McLane Stadium as Baylor honors the 2013 and 2014 Big 12 Championship teams in front of a “black-out” crowd. TCU (5-3, 3-2) is coming off a thrilling 35-34 win over Texas Tech and will be looking to crash Baylor’s party once again.

Here’s a look at how the folks in Las Vegas see this game shaping up.

Saturday will mark the 120th meeting between the Bears and Frogs, with kickoff set for 7 p.m. on ESPN2.
