The College Football Playoff is officially entering a new era — haven’t we heard that several times lately? — and the Big 12 and ACC just got shoved to the edge of the cliff.

On Thursday, CFP executives unanimously approved a change that moves away from rewarding conference champions with top seeds.

So much for the Big 12 getting a CFP bye without either going completely undefeated or taking down a top tier P2 opponent out of conference...

Enough with the painfully slow death march. It's been obvious where this is headed for a few years now. Let the Super Conference, expanded B1G-SEC or whatever you want to call it with the 20 or 30 schools form their semi-pro league, and then let Baylor and all the rest re-form college sports.

That would be the death of Baylor sports.

No way in hell that Rutgers, Purdue, Vandy and Northwestern get to be a part of the big show... but Baylor is left out?

That's bull*****

We have to fight against this destruction that ESPN started. They don't give a **** about college sports. They just wanted to own college sports so they could try to make some money from it. They don't care if they destroy it in the process.

For the past 25 years, Disney has destroyed everything they have touched.
I can let them destroy the Avengers and Start Wars... but not college sports and the universities connected to it!!

You can fight all you want. We're not getting in. That's basically already been determined. And I suspect most of the ones you mentioned will also find themselves on the outside looking in as well, even though they are being fed at the table right now. Texas, Ohio St, Michigan and several others big boy money programs along with ESPN and Fox will make sure that happens. It's not gonna be the end of Baylor sports or anyone else. ESPN, Fox and others still need content and will pay for the Kansas St's and Baylor's of the world. We'll just be in an arena where we can actually compete for a national championship instead of one where we have no chance. Some of our fans confuse making the playoffs with actually having a chance to win the natty. We don't have the money to keep up and neither does most others. May as well reformulate now. It's inevitable.

Same as it ever was.

Did anyone really think the most media sponsored conferences were going to have to go by the same standards? Nope.

There will never be a legit cfp until polls don't matter and conference championships do. They would have to figure out a schematic way to have it a win-and-in format with four pre-determined sections, no committe, no judges, just win games with a strict and objective tie-breaking formula. That's not likely to happen in our lifetimes with the way conferences are composed independently, with different formats, and contantly in flux.

The bowl system of the 70s was the best we ever had. Then at least we had great matchups for a lot of great traditional bowl games that mattered to fans and players. I'd rather have way more great football than one fake playoff.

In 15 or 20 years it will probably all be coed flag foootball anyway.
