Baylor Baseball Lands Wisconsin-Whitewater RHP, DIII National Champion Cade Hansen
Baylor baseball has earned a transfer portal commitment from Wisconsin-Whitewater (Division III) rising senior right-handed pitcher Cade Hansen. Hansen becomes the fourth transfer portal addition of the offseason, joining DBU right-handed pitcher Charlie Atkinson, UTA first baseman Tyce Armstrong and UTA infielder Cade Dodson.
The 6-foot-3 righty started 14 games last year for the National Champion Warhawks and boasted a 12-1 record, 2.68 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and .233 batting average against; he tossed over 84 innings with an impressive 84:13 strikeout-to-walk ratio. Across his first two seasons, the New Braunfels native (Smithson Valley High School) made 21 appearances and surrendered 19 earned runs across 41 frames with 38 punchouts.
Hansen started on the bump for Wisconsin-Whitewater in the DIII National Championship-clinching game in early June, where he earned the win and allowed just two runs and struck out four across 5.1 innings against Messiah University.
Baylor’s pitching staff remained mostly intact this offseason but will need to continue adding depth following the departures of Caleb Jameson and Carson Bailey to the transfer portal, as well as likely season-ending injuries to relievers Will Glatch and Brayden Bergman.
Under first-year pitching coach Sean Snedeker, the Bears drastically improved and were in the top half of the conference in earned run average (4.52), batting average against (.252), WHIP (1.33) and strikeout-to-walk ratio (442:132).
