Baylor rising redshirt junior defensive back Carl Williams IV plans to enter the transfer portal, according to his social media.
Williams was expected to be one of Baylor’s best defenders, but battled multiple injuries this fall and elected to take a medical redshirt. The only time he saw on the field was for a handful of snaps against SMU on Sept. 6.
As a sophomore, Williams struggled with injuries but started seven games at STAR, totaling 35 tackles and five tackles for loss. In the Texas Bowl loss to LSU, Williams had a career day, collecting seven tackles, a tackle for loss and a forced fumble.
He had a breakout freshman season, finishing with 20 tackles, two pass-breakups and an interception across 12 contests. He was the third-highest graded (83.5) freshman cornerback in the country, according to Pro Football Focus.
Williams was a three-star prospect out of Southern Lab High School; he was ranked as the No. 56 cornerback and the No. 22 overall player in Louisiana in the 2023 recruiting class.
The transfer portal window this offseason runs from Jan. 2 to Jan. 16.
