Baylor Women's Basketball Adds Size Inside With Signing of NC State Transfer Lorena Awou
Baylor women’s basketball has signed Lorena Awou, a 6-foot-5 center who most recently played for the North Carolina State Wolfpack.
In the 2025-26 season, Awou averaged 3.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 0.3 steals and 0.7 blocks in eight minutes per game with the Wolfpack. The sophomore made 5-of-11 shots from the field and missed all three attempts from the free-throw line. She appeared in three games before being suspended and leaving the North Carolina State program; there are no public details as to why she was suspended.
In her freshman season, Awou averaged 3.2 points, 2.5 rebounds, 0.4 steals and 0.4 blocks across 31 games. She made 40-of-78 shots from the field and 19-of-51 attempts from the free-throw line.
Head coach Nicki Collen was asked about the addition of Awou after she was spotted on the bench during Baylor’s win 82-66 win over Houston on Tuesday night, saying, “We got a call from compliance on the first day of class that there was a player who wanted to join our team, so we kind of went through the process of what that meant through the compliance department.”
Awou’s height makes her a rim deterrent, and she boasts a career block percentage of 4.2%. Her biggest strength is her ability to get on the offensive glass, as Awou has a career offensive rebound percentage of 16.8%.
She is expected to have three years of eligibility remaining, assuming she’s able to reshirt after playing in just three games this season. Awou will not be eligible for the remainder of the 2025-26 season, but “will be ready to play next year,” according to Collen.
