ATLANTA – Baylor women’s basketball redshirt sophomore Taliah Scott has been named to the 2026 Jersey Mike’s Naismith Trophy Women’s College Player of the Year Late-Season Team as announced by the Atlanta Tipoff Club on Tuesday morning.

The Orange Park, Fla., native is averaging 20.6 points per game through her redshirt sophomore season, putting up 30 points against Alabama State and a season-high 32 against then-No. 19 Iowa. Scott’s first career double-double came in a 23-point 10-assist showing against Southeastern Louisiana.

Scott scored her 1,000th career point last week against TCU to become the 22nd player since 2000 to reach 1,000 career points in 48 games or fewer, tying the 19th fewest games needed in that span.

Making an instant impact with the Bears this season, Scott began the year by scoring 20 or more points in seven consecutive games, the longest season-opening streak in the country this year. She also became just the third player since 2000 to score 20 or more points in at least her first seven games on a new roster, joining Buffalo’s Dyaisha Fair (seven in 2019-20) and Idaho’s Emily Faurholt (10 in 2003-04). A few games later, Scott’s 232 points through 10 games were the third most by a Bear this century behind Odyssey Sims and Nina Davis.

Scott was also named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Midseason Top 10 list, where at the time of announcement she ranked No. 2 in scoring on the list among the nation’s best shooting guards.

Scott is one of three Big 12 representatives on the Player of the Year Late-Season Team and is one of 11 underclassmen among the 30-player watch list.

No. 15 Baylor WBB is in the midst of a busy stretch, readying for Game No. 3 of 5 in a 12-day span as it faces No. 20 Texas Tech in Lubbock on Wednesday evening. Through 14 games of conference play, the Bears are tied at the top of the league with TCU, half a game in front of West Virginia and one game ahead of Texas Tech.

The Bears return home to Foster Pavilion on Saturday to host Arizona for senior night with tipoff scheduled for 7 p.m. on ESPN+. Two days later, the Kansas State Wildcats come to Waco to close the home regular season from the Banks of the Brazos River.

Baylor women's basketball is presented by Central National Bank, a family-owned, independent bank headquartered in Waco, Texas, that provides uniquely personal service while simultaneously embracing the latest developments in banking technology.

What are the chances we are able to keep Tahlia after this season?

I was just about yo ask that same question. I love her style of play, and the fact that she is always smiling. I hope we can keep her for 3 more years.

What evidence is there to point to her leaving?

If there was ever a player you go all in to keep…she would be the one. IMO…We will learn allot about our new AD and the commitment to BU WBB by the effort to keep her.

Don't think there is any at this point. Just the assumption that hefty sums will be thrown at her to leave.

I think Taliah is very happy at Baylor. She has specifically said she really likes Nicki and the team and that all team cultures are not like Baylor's.

However I am worried about her leaving because she will have very large sums of money offered to her. Sums that Baylor likely can't match. I am not sure if money is the main consideration with Taliah but unfortunately it is with most players…..

The wealthy supporters of Wbb and AD need to step up to insure we keep her.

Winning championships and making deep tournament runs are both very appealing to players when weighing their options.

One might be more inclined to stay for less money IF they are happy and winning.

Which is why it's important for CNC to start winning the important games before that advantage goes away.

All players are not alike. The great player Delaware had some years ago, Delle Donne had no desire to move on even though Geno probably did his best to lure her away. The comments I have heard from Scott is that she is very happy. But money appeals to some and not to others. We will just have to see.

Elena Delle Donne actually started at at UConn, then transferred to Delaware to be closer to her special needs sister. Her family came first, I really admired that about her.
