Baylor Routed 11–2 by No. 25 Arizona State in Series Opener as Losing Streak Continues
TEMPE, Arizona – Baylor baseball (22-19, 9-10) extended its losing streak to four games with a blowout 11-2 defeat in the series opener to No. 25 Arizona State (29-14, 12-7) on Friday night at Phoenix Municipal Stadium.
Shortstop Travis Sanders (RJr.) carried the Bears in the loss, going 3-for-4 at the plate with a solo home run and double; it was his team-high 17th multi-hit game of the season. Catcher JJ Kennett (Jr.) hit his first homer of the season — it was Baylor’s only other hit.
Arizona State out-hit the Bears, 16-to-4, and the Sun Devils clubbed five long balls in the contest. Six Arizona State batters had at least two base knocks. Baylor’s batting punched out 17 times and went 0-for-8 with runners on.
Right-handed pitcher Lucas Davenport (RJr.) didn’t have his sharpest stuff on Friday night, as he allowed a season-high six earned runs and 10 hits across six frames. Davenport’s record dropped to 4-2 on the season.
In relief, the Sun Devils continued to pour it on, adding five runs and six hits off righty reliever, Charlie Atkinson (Jr.), in the seventh and eighth innings. His ERA on the season went up to 4.71.
