WACO, Texas – On Wednesday afternoon Baylor head coach Matt provided updates on several players who are currently recovering from injury and gave their status for their upcoming road trip to San Antonio to face UTSA on Saturday evening.

Left tackle Jake Fruhmorgen, who was sidelined in fall camp with a knee injury and missed the season opener against Abilene Christian, is expected to play against the Road Runners. An appearance for the junior would be his first in a Baylor uniform since transferring from Clemson prior to the 2017 season. Fruhmorgen started eight games for the Tigers at right tackle his freshman and sophomores seasons.

Linebacker Clay Johnston will play against UTSA after being available to play against ACU last Saturday. Johnston suited up for the contest against the Wildcats but never entered the game. Johnston started eight games for the Bears in 2017 before missing the final four games of the season with an injury.

Starting safety Verkedric Vaughns will be limited, according to Rhule, after suffering a lower body injury against ACU. Vaughns started five games as a junior in 2017 at safety.

Reserve defensive tackle Tyrone Hunt, a junior, is expected to miss the contest fully with a lower body injury and will likely miss at least one more contest as he recovers. He did not play in the season opener for the Bears.

Junior college offensive lineman Jarcarlo Valentin is "getting closer" according to Rhule, but is doubtful to play on Saturday while sophomore lineman Xavier Newman is expected to play. Newman started eight games as a true freshman for the Bears in 2017.

Redshirt freshman linebacker Bryson Jackson is still recovering from an undisclosed injury and will miss the game on Saturday.
