Athlon Sports: Two Bears on First-Team All-Big 12 Preseason Defense

Steven Lassan of Athlon Sports recently released the publication’s first, second, third and fourth team preseason offensive, defensive and special teams for the Big 12 Conference in 2019. A total of 10 Bears were listed, including two on the first-team defensive list.

Senior linebacker Clay Johnston and junior defensive lineman James Lynch led the way for the Bears on the first team while senior receiver Denzel Mims and was listed on the second team.

Johnston led the Bears with 99 tackles a season ago, chipping in 5.5 tackle for loss and 1.0 sacks. Lynch finished the season with 40 tackles, 9.0 tackles for loss and 5.5 sacks. Mims caught 55 passes for 794 yards and led the team with eight touchdown receptions. 

Finishing off the list for Baylor were third-team honorees Trestan Ebner (RB) and Bravvion Roy (DL) and fourth-team honorees Charlie Brewer (QB), Sam Tecklenburg (OL), Blake Lynch (LB), Raleigh Texada (CB) and Josh Fleeks (PR).

Baylor’s 10 was sixth best in the conference behind Texas (15), Iowa State (15), Oklahoma (13), Oklahoma State (12) and TCU (11).
