Porzingis is incredibly skilled. A great three point shooter.

Will be interesting to see a zone with those two on the floor together.

Yeah, Porzingis is obviously on a different level than Marjonovic, and his skill set is certainly more unique (Unicorn and all), but Boban has an enormous amount of offensive skill around the basket for a guy with his body type.

That catch and finish through contact on Luka's behind-the-head pass last night was extraordinarily impressive. Most post players don't catch that pass at all, much less handle it one-handed and go up for the finish over two defenders.

Here's the play I was talking about above. It's hard to see from this angle, but the pass was well behind the rolling Boban. It's not easy for a guy that big to make this look that smooth.

Funny

My sister was telling me about how tall the guy in the elevator was earlier today - it was KP - she is 5 4 tops, she got a good look at a rib cage and not sure she saw his face well.

Only two NBA players are averaging at least 25 points, 7.5 rebounds and 7.5 assists per game this season. One of them surprise, surprise is the Lakers' LeBron James. LeBron has had himself a long career during which he has dominated every inch of the floor for a very long time. He arguably has the most varied skill set in the history of the game, and it has earned him career averages of 27.1 points, 7.4 rebounds and 7.3 assists per game. This is just kind of what he does; it's his version of normal.

The other player averaging at least 25, 7.5 and 7.5 is 20-year-old Luka Doncic of the Mavericks. That is not normal; that is special. The complete list of players ever to average 25, 7.5 and 7.5 over a single season looks like this: LeBron, Oscar Robertson (six times), Russell Westbrook (twice), Larry Bird, James Harden and Michael Jordan. None of those legends was as young as Doncic

Just about all of what Doncic is doing at his age is unheard of. His skill set is so versatile that after securing his seventh triple-double of the season against the Warriors on Wednesday night, he has already tied Magic Johnson's all-time record for triple-doubles in an age-20 season2 only 14 games into the year. He's averaging 29.9 points per game; no other 20-year-old has ever done that. He's averaging better than nine assists per game; no 20-year-old before him has ever done that, either. He's also averaging more than 10 rebounds per game; only nine other 20-year-olds in history have ever done that, and unlike Doncic, who plays on the wing, all of them were big men.

Obviously, no 20-year-old has ever done all of those things at the same time, let alone while adding the 1.4 steals and 3.1 threes per game that Doncic has contributed so far this season. He's the youngest player ever to carry his current usage rate (35.2 percent), and yet among the 28 seasons in NBA history in which a player has used at least 35 percent of his team's possessions while on the floor, Doncics current 0.625 true shooting percentage is second-best.3

Doncic recorded a 35-point triple-double in just 25 minutes played in Wednesday's 142-94 win over the Warriors, the least playing time ever by a player to post a 30-point triple-double.

Man oh man, there are a lot of weird, and useless, stats.

The Mavs look to be at least a year ahead of an ambitious schedule. 10-5 with two inexplicable losses to the Knicks. It's fun to care again.

No illusions Mavs are winning anything real soon, but great to climb into the decent level and have some high hopes for the future. Makes hoops fun again.

Giannis Antetokounmpo and Luka Doncic have been named the NBA Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Month, respectively, for contests played in October and November.
This marks the first time two international players have won NBA Player of the Month in their respective conferences in the same month.

The Mavs managed to go 2-3 without Luka Doncic against the beasts of the Eastern Conference (Miami, Milwaukee, Boston, Philadelphia and Toronto) and would have finished that run with a winning record if not for a meltdown after building a 30-point lead over the Raptors. "We're not looking to be a little better than expected," coach Rick Carlisle said after Sunday's loss. "We're looking to do exceptional things. So that's why this is really disappointing." -- MacMahon

from last night: Doncic finished with 31 points, 15 assists and 12 rebounds. He now has more triple-doubles (nine) than he had all of last season (eight). Doncic tied Jason Kidd's franchise record for most triple-doubles in a season after just 26 games so far in this campaign. he and his teammates set a franchise record with 24 3-pointers.
