Saw some folks having fun with the old Sportatorium wrestlers like the Von Erichs (Adkisson from Lake Dallas) and Ivan Putski and Chief Wahoo McDaniels.

This should be fun.

I would tune in to Channel 11 when it came in on the Waco airwaves which was always questionable in the 60's Great fun in those days.

We all knew it was fake but we didnt really care.

My grandparents would watch Houston Wrestling every Friday night. Paul Boesch announcing. You couldn't convince them it was fake.

Gino was a good friend of mine. We worked out down at Dougs Gym back in the day. He and a couple of the other guys would come up to the clubs I was bouncing at, they knew I would make sure they didnt get in too much trouble!

He was billed as Hispanic but his real name was Charlie Wolfe from Highland Park, didnt even speak Spanish. Dude had a lot of demons - finally ODd at 28 yoa.

Wahoo McDaniel married a gal from Wink while I lived there. Thought it was pretty cool since I had watched him play at OU.

Every time I see Big XII officials in action, I wonder:

Would Bronko Lubich approve of this ****?

Pretty sure the von Erich family name was Adkisson. Good memories.

Bundy used to work out at Dougs Gym too. Huge guy. Billed at over 400lbs I think. While many times the height and weight were exaggerated, his wasnt.

One of the biggest guys that I remember seeing in person at Dougs that wasnt obese was Frank Goodish, a football player from West Texas State (WTA&M now), aka Bruiser Brody

6'8, 280, without an ounce extra fat on him. I was lifting a pretty good amount of weight back then but this guy - damn. While we'd put 225 on the bench and warmup, he's slap on 315, hit it 30 times, slap on 90 more, hit it 15-20 times, them slap on more. Never saw him maxout but he would always get into the 500 range with multiple reps

I'm wasnt a small guy back then at a pinch over 6' and pretty solid 220. His hands were easily twice the size of mine, fingers looked like footlong hot dogs. Guessing he wore at least an 18-19 shoe.

He would sharpen a fingernail so that he could slice someone elses - or his own forehead so the blood would flow.

His entrance song

I wish the Big 12 officials would get knocked out with a metal chair as many times as Bronko Lubich did.

Bruiser Brody being murdered in Puerto Rico and nobody getting charged was a shame.

That was a byproduct of their chosen profession. Everybody wants to take a shot. Frank was not one of the folks I would even consider.... that was a bad, bad man

Winning by cheating is just as impressive as winning fairly, probably even more so. Your opponent was better than you in every way, and you beat them with your brain.

Goldust really wasn't in the upper echelon. A case could be made for Dusty RIP.

Also the Million Dollar Man Ted DiBiase.

One of my high school buddies fought chickens and he was at a fight at Davilla (look that one up) and the von Erichs were there stoned out of their minds sitting in a corner of the barn. I guess they liked the whacky weed.

I knew the three oldest that were alive from Dougs Gym. the oldest died as a kid.

As far as I know, Kevin was pretty straight. Always seemed like that. Never saw him out at night in Dallas. However, the next two...

David and Kerry were hellraisers extraordinaire. David supposedly died of some intestinal disease but the rumor is Bruiser Brody flushed drugs down the toilet when he found Davids body.

Kerry was wild as hell. Total ladies man. They loved him. When he lost his foot in that motorcycle accident, he was never the same. Dude could lift some weight. Very, very strong. And he could put down a handful of painkillers with no problem.

The others were too young for Dougs or the nightclubs I worked at
